planning to have another exhibition on
this issue, but curator Denizhan Özer
offered a personal exhibition for the 100th
anniversary of Yeşilçam in newly opened
Summart, and I willingly accepted the
offer.

2000’li yıllarda hem video art hem de posta
sanatı yapmam doğrultusunda güncel olaylarla
ilgilenmeye başladım. Araştırma döneminde
bana gelen bir sergi daveti ile ünlü
kişilerle ilgili resim çalışmalarıma başlamış
oldum. Aslında sadece Türk değil dünya
sanatından da bazı ünlü kişilerin resimlerini
yaptım. Bir de ayrıca Pera Oteli’nde kalan
ünlüler üzerine de bir seri resim yaptım.
Sergide Yeşilçam’dan kimleri görmek
mümkün?
Kimler yok ki. Belgin Doruk’tan Bedia
Muvahhit’e, Ekrem Bora’dan Ayhan Işık’a,
Fatma Girik’ten Kemal Sunal’a kadar pek çok
Yeşilçam oyuncusu sergide görülebilir.
Yeşilçam’ın Türk toplumu üzerindeki
etkisinden de biraz bahsedelim istiyorum.
Bizim insanımızda Batılılara nazaran
melankoli önemli bir damardır ve
Yeşilçam filmlerinde buna çokça rastlarız.
Söz konusu Yeşilçam olunca sinema
kelimesi de nostaljik bir havaya bürünüyor.
Günümüzde geçmişe duyulan özlemi,
eski filmlerden alınan tadı nasıl
değerlendiriyorsunuz? O zamandan bu
yana ne değişti?
Belki teknolojik olarak ilerledik, bilgisayarlar
kullanmaya başladık, interneti kullanmaya

In your paintings, you represent
famous actors and actresses particularly
from the past. You feel like travelling
in time with people you know
and love. Where does your interest in
Turkish cinema come from?
I watched these films on one-channel television
in my entire childhood. There was a
summer cinema in front of our house in
Adapazarı and our neighbors used to go
up the terrace, drinking tea and coffee in
the evenings while watching the cinema
films. Later, I watched black-and-white
films on TV and they made me either cry
or laugh. I am emotionally affected in
either way. But they were represented in
my paintings many years later. I used to
draw constructivist 2D or 3D pictures
when I graduated from the university. I
started to deal with current issues in line
with video art and mail art in 2000s. I
started to draw pictures about famous
people after an invitation to an exhibition.
Actually I drew the pictures of some wellknown
figures from other countries
besides Turkey. I also have a series of
paintings about famous people who previously
stayed in Pera Hotel.
Which Yeşilçam actors and actresses
will we see in the exhibition?
You can see almost everybody. Several
Yeşilçam figures can be seen at the exhibition
from Belgin Doruk to Bedia Muvahhit,
from Ekrem Bora to Ayhan Işık, from
Fatma Girik to Kemal Sunal.
Now I would like to talk about
Yeşilçam’s effect on Turkish society.
Melancholy is an important factor for
our people than other Western societies
and we see a lot of melancholy in
Yeşilçam films. When it comes to
Yeşilçam, the word ‘cinema’ gains a
nostalgic nature. What can you say
about the longing for the past, and the
delight of old films? What have
changed since those times?
We may have advanced in technology, we
have started to use computers and the
