TEXTILE if only 25 per cent of all jeans worldwide were manufactured according to the ADVANCED DENIM process, water savings would amount to some 62 billion litres per year. This equals a water need of around 1.7 million people. Furthermore, the novel technology prevents, according to Clariant’s calculations, 8.3 billion litres of waste water and saves around 220 million kilowatt hours of energy, annually and the carbon footprint of the industry in CO2 emissions reduced accordingly. Clariant’s breakthrough technology has been honored by the prestigious 2012 Innovation Awards organized by ICIS Chemical Business magazine, as “overall winner” and as “Innovation with Best Environmental Benefit”. Clariant was also one of the first companies to be awarded an EU Ecolabel (Certificate Number: ES-CA/016/007) for its ADVANCED DENIM jean illustration collection, in recognition of the sustainability benefits that can be achieved with the technology.
