Now you can install <strong>the</strong> latest Defender disc brake components on<strong>to</strong><br />
your trusty 88” or 109” Land Rover and enjoy amazingly quick and<br />
controlled s<strong>to</strong>pping power. Front kits are based on a new hub<br />
assembly and new swivel ball housing, cast from ductile iron with a<br />
minimum strength rating of 80,000 pounds per square inch, this kit<br />
is an engineering masterpiece. The front caliper mounts are cast in<strong>to</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> housings, just like Defender, <strong>to</strong> handle <strong>the</strong> massive 4 pis<strong>to</strong>n<br />
Defender calipers that grab 12 inch vented Defender discs, just like<br />
<strong>the</strong> NAS 90 enjoys. Timm’s rear conversion kit uses <strong>the</strong> same hub<br />
assemblies with solid Defender rear discs and 2 pis<strong>to</strong>n Defender rear<br />
calipers. Using all Defender brake components, as well as wheel<br />
bearings and seals, means easy service, easy parts availability in <strong>the</strong><br />
future, and adds directly <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> value of your Land Rover.<br />
These kits are designed <strong>to</strong> work with an 88” or 109” dual power<br />
master cylinder available on Land Rovers manufactured from 1969<br />
through 1984. For owners with early single non-power system<br />
master cylinders, you will need <strong>to</strong> convert <strong>to</strong> a dual power master<br />
cylinder. This conversion involves installing a vacuum port in<strong>to</strong> your<br />
intake manifold, installing a dual power pedal box assembly which<br />
houses <strong>the</strong> dual master cylinder, vacuum servo unit and brake<br />
light switch. This pedal assembly is larger in size. It will require<br />
modifying your wing <strong>to</strong>p, splashguard mount, and installing a Series<br />
III style splashguard. You will <strong>the</strong>n need <strong>to</strong> re-plumb your clutch<br />
master, and install additional brake lines <strong>to</strong> complete <strong>the</strong> dual circuit.<br />
You will also have <strong>the</strong> option of adding in a safety failure junction<br />
valve, with or without warning light, and choosing between<br />
hydraulically or mechanically activated brake lights. These parts can<br />
