1933 - 1947 <strong>SEC</strong> Champion based on conference winning percentage.<br />

1948 - 1950 <strong>SEC</strong> divided into two divisions (Eastern and Western) but composite standings still kept. Division leaders meet in bestof-five-game<br />

championship series for <strong>SEC</strong> Championship.<br />

1951 - 1952 Championship series discontinued; <strong>SEC</strong> Champion based on conference winning percentage.<br />

1953 - 1976 Division leaders meet in best-of-three-game championship series for <strong>SEC</strong> Championship.<br />

1977 - 1985 Top two teams from each division meet in a double-elimination tournament at alternating site of division champion for<br />

<strong>SEC</strong> Championship.<br />

1986 League abolishes divisions; Round-robin play begins; Top four teams meet in a double-elimination tournament for <strong>SEC</strong><br />

Championship.<br />

1987 Tournament field increases to top six regular-season finishers for <strong>SEC</strong> Championship.<br />

1988 - 1991 Team finishing with highest conference winning percentage over 27-game round-robin schedule is <strong>SEC</strong> Champion;<br />

Tournament is played to award NCAA automatic bid.<br />

1992 <strong>SEC</strong> Champion is team finishing the 24-game conference schedule with the highest winning percentage; League<br />

recognizes team finishing with highest over<strong>all</strong> winning percentage as Eastern and Western Division Champions in their<br />

respective divisions.<br />

1993-1995 <strong>SEC</strong> Tournament games count toward <strong>all</strong> <strong>SEC</strong> Championships; <strong>SEC</strong> Champion is team with highest over<strong>all</strong> conference<br />

winning percentage; Eastern and Western Division Champions are teams in each division with the highest over<strong>all</strong><br />

conference winning percentage; NCAA automatic bid is awarded to the team which wins its divisional tournament and<br />

has the highest over<strong>all</strong> conference winning percentage.<br />

1996-1997 <strong>SEC</strong> Champion is the team with the highest conference winning percentage based on 30-game regular season<br />

schedule; Neutral site, eight-team conference tournament; Tournament field consists of top three teams (based of<br />

conference winning<br />

percentage) from Eastern and Western Divisions and two at-large teams chosen based on their conference winning<br />

percentage. NCAA automatic bid is awarded to tournament winner.<br />

1998 <strong>SEC</strong> Champion is the team with the highest conference winning percentage on 30-game regular season schedule;<br />

Neutral site, eight-team double elimination conference tournament; Tournament field consists of top three teams (based<br />

on conference winning percentage) from Eastern and Western Divisions and two at-large teams chosen based on their<br />

conference winning percentage. Divisional winners guaranteed top two seeds. NCAA automatic bid is awarded to<br />

tournament winner.<br />

1999-current Format remains the same as 1998 except tournament field consists of top two teams from each division and four<br />

at-large teams chosen based on their conference winning percentage.<br />
