August 4, 1994 – A group of Division I-A conferences,<br />

including the <strong>SEC</strong>, select the Fiesta, Sugar<br />

and Orange Bowls as hosts for the Bowl Alliance<br />

games beginning at the conclusion of the 1995<br />

regular season. For the first time since the 1976<br />

season, the <strong>SEC</strong> champion will not contractu<strong>all</strong>y<br />

serve as the host team in the Sugar Bowl.<br />

1996 – One of the most famous plays in college<br />

baseb<strong>all</strong> history occurs as LSU’s Warren Morris<br />

hits a walk-off home run to beat Miami 9-8 in<br />

the CWS National Championship Game.<br />

1997 – LSU’s Brandon Larson becomes the<br />

<strong>SEC</strong>’s single season home run champion by<br />

belting 40 on the year. The <strong>SEC</strong> has four teams<br />

advance to Omaha.<br />

February 2, 1998 – <strong>SEC</strong> announces it has reached<br />

a multi-year extension with CBS Sports to broadcast<br />

its footb<strong>all</strong> and men’s and women’s basketb<strong>all</strong><br />

games. Beginning in 2001, CBS expanded its<br />

<strong>SEC</strong> footb<strong>all</strong> commitment and provides exclusive<br />

national network broadcasts of <strong>SEC</strong> home games<br />

and its basketb<strong>all</strong> coverage will continue to expand<br />

nation<strong>all</strong>y.<br />

May 23, 1999 – The largest crowd in the history<br />

of the <strong>SEC</strong> Baseb<strong>all</strong> Tournament, 16,165,<br />

gather to watch Alabama face Arkansas in the<br />

finals.<br />

June 7, 1999 – <strong>SEC</strong> announces it has reached a<br />

multi-year extension with ESPN to televise footb<strong>all</strong><br />

and men’s and women’s basketb<strong>all</strong> for the<br />

next eight seasons.<br />

2001 – After winning five national championships<br />

in ten seasons, Skip Bertman retires as<br />

head coach of LSU to assume the role of LSU<br />

Athletic Director.<br />

December 6, 2001 – The <strong>SEC</strong> and CBS Sports announce<br />

an agreement for the network to televise<br />

the <strong>SEC</strong> Footb<strong>all</strong> Championship Game each year<br />

through 2008.<br />

March 12, 2002 – Roy F. Kramer announces his<br />

retirement as the <strong>SEC</strong>’s sixth commissioner, effective<br />

when a new commissioner is named. During<br />

his tenure as the <strong>SEC</strong> commissioner, the league<br />

won 85 national championships and the league distributed<br />

more than $654 million back to its member<br />

institutions.<br />

July 2, 2002 – Michael L. Slive becomes the seventh<br />

Commissioner of the <strong>SEC</strong>.<br />

June 4, 2004 – The <strong>SEC</strong> Task Force on Compliance<br />

and Enforcement issues its report at the 2004 <strong>SEC</strong><br />

Spring Meetings. The report is unanimously accepted<br />

by the 12 member institutions c<strong>all</strong>s for having<br />

none of its schools on NCAA probation within<br />

the next five years.<br />

2004 – For the second time in history, four <strong>SEC</strong><br />

teams advance to the College World Series.<br />

February 23, 2005 – <strong>SEC</strong> announces the formation<br />

of its Academic Consortium, which will link academic<br />

resources of its 12 member institutions.<br />

2007 – National Player of the Year David Price<br />

of Vanderbilt selected as the first pick in the<br />

MLB Draft.<br />

August 14, 2008 – CBS Sports and the <strong>SEC</strong> announce<br />

a 15-year agreement to extend broadcasts<br />

of <strong>SEC</strong> footb<strong>all</strong> and basketb<strong>all</strong> games.<br />

August 25, 2008 – ESPN and the <strong>SEC</strong> announce a<br />

15-year agreement beginning in 2009-10 through<br />

2023-24. It is the longest national rights agreement<br />

in ESPN history. ESPN entities (ESPN,<br />

ESPN on ABC, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN Regional<br />

Television, ESPN360.com, ESPN Mobile TV,<br />

ESPN GamePlan, ESPN Full Court, ESPN International,<br />

ESPN Deportes, ESPN Classic) will carry<br />

more than 5,500 <strong>SEC</strong> events including footb<strong>all</strong>,<br />

men’s and women’s basketb<strong>all</strong>, Olympic sports and<br />

<strong>SEC</strong> Championships.<br />

2008 – Every game from the <strong>SEC</strong> Tournament<br />

televised in high-definition for the first time.<br />

The <strong>SEC</strong>’s winningest coach of <strong>all</strong> time, Ron<br />

Polk of Mississippi State, retires.<br />

June 2009 – League distributes $132.5 million in<br />

revenue to members. The $132.5 million is the<br />

highest total ever distributed in <strong>SEC</strong> history and<br />

represents a 4.0 percent increase from the $127.6<br />

million distributed to the schools in 2007-2008.<br />

2009 – LSU wins the <strong>SEC</strong>’s seventh national<br />

championship since 1990.<br />

2010 – The number of regular season <strong>SEC</strong><br />

baseb<strong>all</strong> telecasts more than triples with the<br />

leagues’ new television contract with ESPN. A<br />

pitch clock is implemented at the <strong>SEC</strong> Baseb<strong>all</strong><br />

Tournament in Hoover.<br />

2011 - ESPN announces a Thursday night, primetime<br />

<strong>SEC</strong> Baseb<strong>all</strong> Game of the Week to air<br />

on ESPNU starting in early April. Over 100 <strong>SEC</strong><br />

regular season baseb<strong>all</strong> games are televised.<br />

June 2011: League distributes $220 million in revenue<br />

to members. The $220 million is the highest<br />

total ever distributed in <strong>SEC</strong> history and represents<br />

a 5.3 percent increase from the $209.0 million<br />

distributed to the schools in 2009-2010.<br />

June 2011 – South Carolina and Florida meet<br />

in Omaha in an All-<strong>SEC</strong> National Championship<br />

Series. The Gamecocks won their second<br />

straight national title, the third in a row for the<br />

<strong>SEC</strong>.<br />

F<strong>all</strong> 2011 – League announces that Texas A&M<br />

and Missouri will join the conference effective July<br />

1, <strong>2012</strong>, with competition to begin in <strong>all</strong> sports for<br />

the <strong>2012</strong>-13 academic year.<br />

January <strong>2012</strong> – Florida and South Carolina begin<br />

the season ranked No. 1 & No. 2, respectively.<br />

<strong>SEC</strong> announces will expand conference<br />

tournament to 10 teams.<br />
