564 Hayes, Rutherford B. Nineteenth President of the United States (1822-93, served 1877-81); his election<br />

was controversial, with Republican Hayes chosen over Democrat Samuel Tilden by a special commission<br />

to determine voting results from four disputed states; ended Reconstruction, alienating his own<br />

party. Partly engraved Document Signed “R.B. Hayes” as President, 1 page, folio, Washington, November<br />

27, 1877. Also signed by Secretary of War “Geo. W. McCrary”. They appoint Ammon A Augur<br />

(1852-1908) a second lieutenant in the 24th Regiment of Infantry. With blue War Department seal.<br />

Recorded and signed in the Adjutant General’s Office, December 5, 1877. Piece out at bottom mid-left,<br />

light age-toning, otherwise VF. Also includes Cadet Appointment Certificate of the United States Military<br />

Academy, #431, July 1, 1873, for Ammon A. Augur. Signed and dated by Secretary of War Wm.<br />

Belknap on March 7, 1874. Also includes a mixed group of world currency, that may have been acquired<br />

during WWII: Belgium (2), France (5), Germany (10), Japan (20), Luxembourg (1), French<br />
