563 Tyler, John (1790-1862) Tenth President of the United States, who succeeded to the office upon<br />

William Henry Harrison’s death in 1841. Attractive partly engraved Document Signed “John Tyler”<br />

as President and “A.P. Upshur” as Secretary of State, 1 page, folio, on vellum, [Washington], November<br />

11, 1843, #54 issued in New Bedford, Massachusetts. A scallop-topped ship’s passport for the “Ship<br />

Corinthian of New Bedford John Minkley” master or commander of the burthen of “401 and 32/95”<br />

tons...mounted with “no” guns navigated with “thirty” men. Countersigned for the State of “Massachusetts”<br />

District of “New Bedord” and countersigned by customs collector, “Rodney French Collector.”<br />

Seal of the United States at lower left. Docketing on reverse “...October 6th 1847 George W.<br />

Armington having taken the oath required by law is at present master of the within vessel. [signed]<br />

“...James Truman” and “...June 3rd 1851 Ansel N. Stuart...[signed] Wm. T. Russell collector.” Overall:<br />

13” x 15”. Framed in simple wooden frame under plexiglass, outer dimensions measure: 18” x 20<br />

1/2”, with area cut out of mat board to display docketing on the reverse of document. Minor and typical<br />
