Napoleonic era, featuring a rare Autograph Document Signed by General Guillaume Marie Anne
“Brune” as a member of the Council of State, 1/2 page, on partly engraved stationery, Paris, 19 frimaire,
an X (December 10, 1801). He writes Minister of War Louis-Alexandre Berthier, transmitting a letter
from citizen Martigues (not present). Brume (1763-1815) and Berthier would both become Marshals
of the Empire after Napoleon’s coronation. With an exceptional DS by Denis “Decres” as Minister of the
Navy and the Colonies, Paris, 19 ventose, an 11 (March 10, 1803) to the Colonial Prefect of St
Domingue, Montgiraud, concerning financial matters. French control of St Domingue - now Haiti - was
already doomed, and Napoleon would sell Louisiana to the United States in April, divesting himself of
his American holdings. By the first day of 1804, Haiti proclaimed itself an independent nation. With a
DS of December 1799 from Jean Baptiste Girot-Pouzol of the Council of 500 to Minister of Finance
Chales Gaudin; and five other documents, 1800-08, on various civil and military matters. Condition is
in every case VG or better. A fascinating group perfect for the Napoleonic collector who relishes research
and discovery.
