542 Griswold, Roger Governor of Connecticut (1762-1812); earlier, a US Representative noted as the first<br />

to engage in brawl with another congressman in the House! Pair of Autograph Letters Signed “R:<br />

Griswold” as Governor, 1 page, New Haven, CT, October 25, 1811, and Lyme, April 3, 1812. He<br />

writes to Maj Nathaniel Terry, commanding the governor’s foot-guards of the state militia, asking in the<br />

first “that you will be so good as to give me your opinion in detail respecting a uniform for the<br />

Infantry...” In the second, he responds to Terry’s letter about a new state act authorizing “the Commandants<br />

of the companies of guards to recruit from Infantry companies...I have no doubt of the<br />

expediency of authorising the guards to recruit from any Regiment of Infantry, you have my approbation<br />

to enlist the right men...” Both clean and VG. Terry would resign his post in 1813 and be<br />

named a brigadier general in charge of all the state’s militia. [2] Est. 200-300<br />

543 Harding, Warren G. Twenty-ninth President of the United States (1865-1923, served 1921-23), died<br />

in office. Choice partly-engraved Document Signed “Warren G. Harding” as President, 1 page,<br />

folio, Washington, April 25, 1922. He appoints “Jesse D. Moore...Marshall... eastern district of New<br />

York...” Countersigned by Attorney General “Harry Daugherty.” Age-toned from lamination on the<br />

verso. Coolidge, Calvin Thirtieth President of the United States (1872-1933, served 1923-29),<br />

succeeding to the presidency upon the death of Harding. Choice partly-engraved Document Signed<br />

“Calvin Coolidge” as President, 1 page, folio, Washington, May 5, 1926. He appoints “Jesse D.<br />

Moore...Marshall... eastern district of New York...” Countersigned by Attorney General “Jno. G. Sargent.”<br />
