with Confederate flag and cotton bales watches ship.<br />

Signed by Baron Emile Erlanger (French and German<br />

loan manager), J. Henry Schroeder (British<br />

Agent), Colin J McRae (Financial Agent in Europe,<br />

Alabama businessman and Confederate Congressman)<br />

and John Slidell, CSA Commission to France. VF+,<br />

with just a trace of natural age toning. Very nice for<br />

this issue.<br />

John Slidell, and James Mason were CSA Commissioners<br />

to France and England aboard the British mail<br />

steamer Trent, which was captured and brought back<br />

to the United States. This incident almost drew the<br />

British into the War on the Confederate side, but<br />
