The January 2013 Collector’s Series Sale
1251
1251 1798 1 Dollar. Fine Details, Cleaned. B-14, R.4.
Toned with underlying glossiness as a result of an old
cleaning. Few marks are noted, but several planchet
striations (as-made) remain running through Liberty’s
portrait. (photo) Est. 700-900
1253
1253 1799 1 Dollar. ANACS XF40. B-23. R.4. A sharply
detailed specimen of this easily identifiable die marriage,
with eight stars to Liberty’s left and five to her
right (usually 7X6). The surfaces are now toned
throughout, with deep olive-gray on the obverse and
lighter tan-gray on the reverse. Oil-slick blushes are
evident on both sides. While some contact chatter is
visible on the obverse, no individual marks are bothersome.
1252
1252 1798 1 Dollar. Fine Details, Scratched. B-23, R.3.
Numerous shades of gray traverse both the obverse
and reverse with several ancient diagonal scratches in
the reverse fields that now mostly blend into the wear.
1254
1254 1799/8 1 Dollar. XF Details, Environmental
Damage. B-1, R.3. Rich brown and olive patina blanket
the surfaces with no significant marks and sharp
design detail on Liberty’s hair and the reverse eagle’s
breast. While the overall appeal remains attractive,
some of the obverse peripheral tone is “too dark” and
would likely result in a failure to make it into a problem-free
holder. (photo) Est. 1,800-2,200
