The January 2013 Collector’s Series Sale 1234 Trio of Bust Right Bust Half Dollars. 1) 1803. O-103, R.3. Very Fine Details, Environmental Damage. Darkly toned. 2) 1807. O-105, R.2. Good Details, Damaged. Attractive overall with several ancient digs. 3) Fine Details, Damaged. O-108, R.3. Evidently cleaned and retoned at one time with a pock mark below Liberty’s chin. [3] Est. 400-600 1235 Pair of Problem-Free Bust Half Dollars. 1) 1811. Fine. O-104, R.1. Originally toned with a large die crack on the obverse that defined the die marriage. 2) 1812. VF. O-107, R.1. A smooth example with pleasing detail. An interesting die clash is noted in the reverse fields. [2] Est. 200-300 1236 1820 50 Cents. VF. O-105, R.3. Gray-brown with blended multicolor tone. A tiny edge knock is noted below the date for accuracy’s sake. Est. 80-120 1237 1831 50 Cents. XF. O-109, R.1. Technically with AU details, but with a small edge knock that prevents us from assigning the designation. Still, market acceptable with a charming blanket of attractive toning. Est. 100-150 1242 1242 1863 50 Cents. PCGS MS64. An exquisite Civil War representative with the combination of few contact marks and knife-like rendering of the intended design elements. The luster varies by side, with the obverse luster being frosty and encircling the central devices and the reverse being slightly semi-prooflike as the result of considerable die polish lines. Interestingly, some die rust is present beneath the olive branch on the reverse, likely the result of a storage mishap and usage on a previous year’s coinage. A wonderful premium example and sure to be met with enthusiasm. Housed in a first generation PCGS holder. (photo) Est. 1,800-2,200 1238 1836 50 Cents. XF. O-123, R.3. An edge knox on reverse at 10 o’clock may prevent problem-free certification. 3) 1837. Fine Details, Scratched. 4) 1839. VG Details, Environmental Damage. [4] Est. 200-300 1240 Pair of No Motto Seated Half Dollars. 1) 1840-O. XF. Pleasingly detailed with untoned obverse centers. 2) 1848-O. VF. Antique toned with several obverse rim bruises. [2] Est. 100-150 1241 Trio of With Arrows Seated Liberty Half Dollars. 1) 1853 Arrows and Rays. VF Details, Cleaned. 2) 1853 Arrows and Rays. Fine. 3) 1854 Arrows. Uncirculated Details, Scratched. [3] Est. 150-250 1243 1243 1873 Arrows 50 Cents. NGC AU58. A collectible type representative with sharp details in the centers and peripheries, mild reflectivity in the fields, and attractive golden coloration on both sides. January 15-16, 2013 - New York, NY 1246 1246 1950 50 Cents. NGC PR67. Completely brilliant with problem-free mirrors and sharply defined devices. A scarce and desirable first-year Franklin proof that is typically found in lesser grades. (photo) Est. 900-1,100 1247 1951 50 Cents. PCGS PR64 Cameo. Impeccable mirror depth is instantly identifiable with pleasing frost on the central devices and peripheral lettering. Housed in an older green PCGS holder. Est. 350-450 1249 1249 1798 1 Dollar. XF Details, Damaged. B-24, R.2. A sharply defined example of this early Heraldic Eagle half dollar with attractive gray-tan coloration over both sides that lightens at areas with heavier wear. One pock mark to the right of Liberty’s face and several short pinscratches on the reverse would prevent problem-free certification. Still, above-average for the type and an affordable way to obtain an example with most of Liberty’s hair detail remaining. (photo) Est. 1,800-2,200 1248 1248 1795 Two Leaves - Small Eagle 1 Dollar. XF Details, Cleaned - Damaged. B-1, R.1. 27.01gms. A boldly detailed example of this avidly collected “small eagle” type with mostly untoned surfaces that hold some hairlines and edges that show some apparent damage. Given the overall appearance, authenticity has been questioned - and PCGS agreed, offering a “No Decision” upon return. As such, this example will be sold as is, with no returns. (photo) Est. 1,000-3,000 1250 1250 1798 1 Dollar. Fine Details, Cleaned. B-8, R.2. Free of all but the slightest contact marks with an attractive veil of patina over both sides. Underlying brightness suggests a past cleaning, but given the high percentage of survivors that have seen at least this level of cleaning, mild offenders, such as the present, are often allowed to slide by at the grading services. As such, this borderline “market acceptable” example may or may not receive detail-free grading at the leading grading services. (photo) Est. 800-1,000 Page 175
