The January 2013 Collector’s Series Sale
1105 1795 Plain Edge 1 Cent. VG. S-78, R.1. A pleasing,
exceptionally smooth example that technically is accompanied
by a mild touch of corrosion that highlights
some of the devices, but that because of the
overall appeal would likely be termed as “market acceptable”
by the grading services and given a full
grade. Est. 200-400
1106 Quartet of Early Large Cents.
2) 1796 Flowing Hair. Good Details, Cleaned.
4) 1798. Good Details, Cleaned - Damaged. [4]
Est. 400-600
1110 Quintet of Collectible Early Indian Cents.
1) 1864-L. XF.
2) 1868. VF.
3) 1871. Fine.
4) 1874. AU Details, Environmental Damage.
5) 1875. AU. [5] Est. 200-400
1111 1872 1 Cent. Fine. A charming, moderately circulated
better-date Indian cent with a nearly full LIB-
ERTY and surfaces that may be deemed VF quality
when certified as a result of the accompanying detail
within the rest of the devices. Est. 300-400
1112
1107
1107 1803 1 Cent. XF Details, Damaged. S-243A, R.2.
Sharp detail remains with even brown color and the
addition of numerous marks blended inside Liberty’s
hair that accounts for the “damaged” moniker. Struck
from an interesting reverse die with the second S in
STATES widely repunched south, a double fraction
bar in the denomination, and missing wreath stems.
1108
1112 1877 1 Cent. PCGS MS62. The undisputed key in
the Indian cent series due to its low mintage with the
demand for mint state examples far outstripping the
supply. The surfaces of the present example maintains
glossy, relatively smooth chestnut-brown color with
specks of original red peaking through. No major
marks are present, but slight incompleteness in strike,
which translates to weakness on the Indian’s upper
headdress feathers, likely prevented an even finer designation.
1113 1877 1 Cent. VG. LIBERTY is fading on the Indian’s
headband, but otherwise, the integral design
details remain pleasingly defined. An insatiably demanded
key issue in the Indian cent series.
Est. 400-600
1114 1877 1 Cent. VG. Evenly worn with the L in LIB-
ERTY being all that remains. A minuscule rim bruise
at 11 o’clock on the obverse is also noted for accuracy.
Est. 300-500
1108 1863 1 Cent. Proof. Attractive coloration on both
sides that mixes blue and maroon color with original
coppery-orange. Mark-free with only minor hairlines
visible beneath a glass - perhaps Select in quality.
1109 Quartet of Uncirculated Copper Nickel Indian
Cents.
1-3) 1863. All three with varying degrees of light
patina.
4) 1864. Attractive even color with some as-made disturbances
around the obverse legends. [4]
Est. 200-400
1115
1115 1888 1 Cent. Select Proof. Mintage: 4,582. Reflective
brown with multicolored iridescence. Several
small carbon flecks on the obverse define the grade.
