Arms of Castilla y Leon quartered by cross (KM 45), three small, interesting Asian chopmarks on reverse: swastika and two crescents, flatly struck margins, about very fine. Est. 200-250 1002 Mexico, Felipe V (1700-1746), ½ Real, 1746 Mo M, Mexico City, Dos Mundos types (KM 66), pleasing lustre and frosty tone, PCGS MS64. Est. 150-200 1003 Mexico, Fernando VI (1746-1759), 8 Reales, 1751 Mo MF, Mexico City, Dos Mundos types (KM 104.1), numerous hairlines, good extremely fine. Est. 200-250 1007 1007 Mexico, Carlos III (1759-1788), 8 Reales, 1775 Mo FM, Mexico City, armored bust right (KM 106.2), a few old obverse hairlines, lustrous and choice extremely fine. Est. 90-120 1004 1004 Mexico, Fernando VI (1746-1759), 8 Escudos, 1757 Mo MM, Mexico City, armored bust right, rev. crowned Arms in Order of the Golden Fleece collar (Fr 21, KM 152), a few old scratches before and below bust, good lustre, extremely fine. (photo) Est. 2,500-3,000 1009 Mexico, Carlos IV (1788-1808), Contemporary Counterfeit 8 Reales, 1790 Mo FM, 26.4gms, oneyear type with Carlos III bust and legend “CARO- LUS IIII”. The 18th century forger did a reasonable approximation of the legal tender coin, the legends and types, though, are crude, and vary noticeably, the “9” in the date particularly stands out and most resembles the Greek letter rho, or a lop-sided acorn. Numerous cross-hatching test pin scratches on both sides and minor core exposure on reverse. An interesting piece. Crude about very fine. Est. 90-120 1005 Mexico, Carlos III (1759-1788), 8 Reales, 1766 Mo MF, Mexico City, Dos Mundos types (KM 105), once cleaned, now with soft iridescent hues, good extremely fine. Est. 200-250 1010 1006 1010 Mexico, Fernando VII (1808-1821), 8 Escudos, 1811 Mo HJ, Mexico City, peruked and armored bust right, rev. crowned Arms within Order of Golden Fleece collar (Fr 47, KM 160), good very fine.
