914 An Interesting Collection of 18th Century Swiss and
Northern Italian Fiscal Paper.
Included are over seventy documents from Bellinzona,
Rohrschach, Ragatz, Rheineck, St. Gallen, Gunzburg,
Bergamo, Como, Intra, Milano and Chiavenna. Dated
from the 1740s to the 1790s. Several are on printed
forms, others are manuscript. Most appear to be
freight invoices and other shipper’s records, many
bearing shipper’s and receiver’s individual marks.
These are in the form of letters and geometric designs
such as 5-pointed stars (perhaps a Jewish merchant),
triangles and crosses, that would appear on the boxes
of freight as identifying marks. Most are in Very Fine
condition with very little age toning. An unusual collection,
probably difficult to duplicate. Must be seen.
