Old Newsboys com<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>Genesys</strong> Dec. 10<br />

The Old Newsboys of Fl<strong>in</strong>t will be sell<strong>in</strong>g newspapers by <strong>the</strong> hospital entrance Friday,<br />

Dec. 10 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more than 85 years, <strong>the</strong> Old Newsboys of Fl<strong>in</strong>t has<br />

helped about ¾ million children across Genesee County through a holiday box<br />

program, a coat and boot program, and an emergency box program for families.<br />

Hospice Memory Tree light<strong>in</strong>g ceremony Dec. 2<br />

The annual <strong>Genesys</strong> Hospice Memory Tree light<strong>in</strong>g ceremony will take place Thursday,<br />

Dec. 2, at 7 p.m., at <strong>the</strong> Holiday Inn Gateway Centre <strong>in</strong> Fl<strong>in</strong>t (off US 23 at Hill Road).<br />

Proceeds from this event will be used to enhance <strong>the</strong> Hospice Care <strong>Center</strong>, and support<br />

Camp Brave Hearts – an annual summer grief camp for children.<br />

To make a donation, call <strong>Genesys</strong> Hospice at 636-5010. Those who make a one-time<br />

contribution of $500, will receive a gold heart that will be placed on <strong>the</strong> tree year after<br />

year.<br />

Hospice hosts holiday bake sale Dec. 17<br />

<strong>Genesys</strong> Hospice Care <strong>Center</strong> <strong>in</strong> Goodrich is host<strong>in</strong>g a bake sale Wednesday, Dec. 17,<br />

from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at <strong>the</strong> care center. You can purchase Christmas cookies, specialty<br />

gifts such as homemade dog treats, pies, homemade bread, fudge and much more! You<br />

also can pre-order <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g:<br />

• Large cookie and candy trays for $20 – <strong>in</strong>cludes four dozen assorted<br />

homemade cookies and candies<br />

• Small cookie and candy trays for $10 – <strong>in</strong>cludes two dozen assorted<br />

homemade cookies and candies<br />

Gear up for <strong>the</strong> holidays!<br />

On Friday, Nov. 26, <strong>the</strong> po<strong>in</strong>settia tree will<br />

once aga<strong>in</strong> be assembled <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Health Park<br />

atrium. Assembly of <strong>the</strong> 750 <strong>in</strong>dividual<br />

po<strong>in</strong>settia plants that make up a 25 foot tall<br />

tree takes almost one full day to complete.<br />

First, a framework is built on which each<br />

plant stands. Next, a self-water<strong>in</strong>g system is<br />

set up with tubes that run through <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong>terior of <strong>the</strong> tree <strong>in</strong> order to water each<br />

plant. Each pot has an <strong>in</strong>dividual water<br />

feeder so that all plants can be watered at <strong>the</strong><br />

same time. Last, each po<strong>in</strong>settia plant is<br />

strategically placed on <strong>the</strong> stand to make up<br />

<strong>the</strong> beautiful deep red po<strong>in</strong>settia tree that<br />

stands <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> atrium throughout <strong>the</strong><br />

holidays. After <strong>the</strong> holidays, each<br />

discharged patient will receive one of <strong>the</strong><br />

plants when <strong>the</strong> tree is taken down.<br />

Remember to get your flu shot<br />

Employee Health Services is offer<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> flu vacc<strong>in</strong>e Monday through Friday from<br />

7 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., <strong>in</strong> Suite 2605 at Health Park. The <strong>Center</strong>s for Disease Control and<br />

Prevention (CDC) recommends a yearly flu vacc<strong>in</strong>e as <strong>the</strong> first and most important step<br />

<strong>in</strong> protect<strong>in</strong>g aga<strong>in</strong>st seasonal <strong>in</strong>fluenza.<br />

The annual Shoes that Fit campaign is underway. All shoe orders have been filled,<br />

however, monetary donations are desperately needed. If you would like to contribute to<br />

<strong>the</strong> campaign, designed to give many Fl<strong>in</strong>t area school-aged kids a new pair of shoes,<br />

please call C<strong>in</strong>dy Bruett at 603-8682. Make checks payable to “Youth Projects – Shoes<br />

That Fit.”<br />

All shoes must be delivered to <strong>the</strong> Health Park load<strong>in</strong>g dock by Monday Dec. 6. No<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r items are accepted besides one pair of shoes or boots per box.<br />

Musical performances at <strong>Genesys</strong> Dec. 5 and Dec. 9<br />

<strong>Genesys</strong> is pleased to announce holiday musical performances will return to <strong>the</strong> atrium<br />

on Sunday, Dec. 5 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.; and Thursday, Dec. 9 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.<br />

Please share this <strong>in</strong>formation with your family and friends. Patients will be able to<br />

watch <strong>the</strong> Dec. 9 performance <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir bedrooms on Channel 75. For a complete<br />
