Old Newsboys coming to Genesys Dec. 10
The Old Newsboys of Flint will be selling newspapers by the hospital entrance Friday,
Dec. 10 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more than 85 years, the Old Newsboys of Flint has
helped about ¾ million children across Genesee County through a holiday box
program, a coat and boot program, and an emergency box program for families.
Hospice Memory Tree lighting ceremony Dec. 2
The annual Genesys Hospice Memory Tree lighting ceremony will take place Thursday,
Dec. 2, at 7 p.m., at the Holiday Inn Gateway Centre in Flint (off US 23 at Hill Road).
Proceeds from this event will be used to enhance the Hospice Care Center, and support
Camp Brave Hearts – an annual summer grief camp for children.
To make a donation, call Genesys Hospice at 636-5010. Those who make a one-time
contribution of $500, will receive a gold heart that will be placed on the tree year after
year.
Hospice hosts holiday bake sale Dec. 17
Genesys Hospice Care Center in Goodrich is hosting a bake sale Wednesday, Dec. 17,
from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the care center. You can purchase Christmas cookies, specialty
gifts such as homemade dog treats, pies, homemade bread, fudge and much more! You
also can pre-order the following:
• Large cookie and candy trays for $20 – includes four dozen assorted
homemade cookies and candies
• Small cookie and candy trays for $10 – includes two dozen assorted
homemade cookies and candies
Gear up for the holidays!
On Friday, Nov. 26, the poinsettia tree will
once again be assembled in the Health Park
atrium. Assembly of the 750 individual
poinsettia plants that make up a 25 foot tall
tree takes almost one full day to complete.
First, a framework is built on which each
plant stands. Next, a self-watering system is
set up with tubes that run through the
interior of the tree in order to water each
plant. Each pot has an individual water
feeder so that all plants can be watered at the
same time. Last, each poinsettia plant is
strategically placed on the stand to make up
the beautiful deep red poinsettia tree that
stands in the atrium throughout the
holidays. After the holidays, each
discharged patient will receive one of the
plants when the tree is taken down.

Remember to get your flu shot
Employee Health Services is offering the flu vaccine Monday through Friday from
7 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., in Suite 2605 at Health Park. The Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) recommends a yearly flu vaccine as the first and most important step
in protecting against seasonal influenza.
Please consider donating to Shoes that Fit this year
The annual Shoes that Fit campaign is underway. All shoe orders have been filled,
however, monetary donations are desperately needed. If you would like to contribute to
the campaign, designed to give many Flint area school-aged kids a new pair of shoes,
please call Cindy Bruett at 603-8682. Make checks payable to “Youth Projects – Shoes
That Fit.”
All shoes must be delivered to the Health Park loading dock by Monday Dec. 6. No
other items are accepted besides one pair of shoes or boots per box.
Musical performances at Genesys Dec. 5 and Dec. 9
Genesys is pleased to announce holiday musical performances will return to the atrium
on Sunday, Dec. 5 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.; and Thursday, Dec. 9 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Please share this information with your family and friends. Patients will be able to
watch the Dec. 9 performance in their bedrooms on Channel 75. For a complete

Please try to give blood Dec. 16 at Health Park
Did you know … a total of 37 of every 100 Americans are eligible to give blood?
The blood drive, sponsored by Michigan Blood and Genesys, takes place
Thursday, Dec. 16 from noon to 6 pm., in the Health Park auditorium. You don’t
need an appointment but donors with appointments will receive priority status. To
schedule an appointment, go to www.miblood.org, or call 1-866-MIBLOOD.
Remember additional HIPAA module in GLI training
Due to changes in federal law regarding HIPAA policies, an additional HIPAA
module has been added to the Genesys Learning Institute (GLI) required training
for 2010. If employees have not yet completed their GLI requirement, this new
module will automatically appear. If employees have completed their annual
required education, they will need to take this module sometime between now and
the end of the calendar year. It takes about 10 minutes to complete.

GLI Learning Management system now upgraded
The Genesys Learning Institute (GLI) Learning Management System has now been
upgraded with significant improvements that include increased performance and the
ability to mark “Interested” for courses/seminars and education transcripts that are
sortable by date. Questions regarding the learning management system should be
directed to the Clinical Education & Organizational Development office at

Genesys participates in county-wide Safe Kids campaign
Genesys, along with Hurley and McLaren, is participating in Denim Days, a
fundraising drive to raise money for Safe Kids of Greater Flint. For a $5 donation,
employees can wear denim on Friday, Dec. 3. All proceeds go directly to Safe Kids, a
school-based community injury prevention service that provides education on fire
safety, bike and helmet safety, and child passenger safety.
Genesys will sell denim day stickers on these two days from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., outside
the Health Park cafeteria: Wednesday, Nov 24 and Wednesday, Dec. 1.

Genesys kicks off holiday fundraiser through Dec. 10
This year, Genesys will continue its holiday gift giving for those in need by
sponsoring a toy drive for children up to age 14, and for women in shelters.
Please consider donating a new, unwrapped toy that will go to two local
churches – First Presbyterian and Joy Tabernacle – for families whose children
won’t have gifts to open. And the local women’s shelter is accepting new socks
for families. You can drop off your new toys and new socks at the drop box at
