The Cranbrook Chronicle
2013 Red Shield Appeal
Preparing to start the collecting
Craig Davies, Dean of
Co-Curricular Programs
Cranbrook students excelled in the 2013
Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal conducted
on Sunday (26th May). A record number
of 377 Cranbrook students door knocked
through Rose Bay, Double Bay, Woollahra,
Bellevue Hill and Bondi Junction to collect an
amazing $17,530 over a three hour period.
The program was expertly coordinated by
Salvation Army representatives John and
Allison Wiseman and former old boy and
current parent Sandy Dawson. Cranbrook
staff Mr Slavin, Mr Morrow, Rev Tubman, Dr
Cassidy, Ms Murray, Ms Whiteley and Mrs
Shore all assisted with the organisation of the
boys.
In some ways, the numbers were not
surprising due to the importance placed on
In addition to the record
number of students and
the money collected,
there was an amazing
sense of community.
this event by the Housemasters and tutors.
Their support and encouragement of the boys
was telling. Equally as important was the work
of Antony Robinson in his role as Head of
Social Service and the House leaders.
In addition to the record number of students
and the money collected, there was an
amazing sense of community. Year 12 boys
were grouped with Year 7s, Year 11s with Year
8s and Year 10s with Year 9s. Not only did this
provide a degree of safety and reassurance for
the younger students it was also a valuable ‘get
to know you’ and ‘role modelling’ experience.
Congratulations to all involved.
