5ths v Trinity
Loss 19 – 10
The Cranbrook 5ths shrugged off a week of
selection upheaval, limited practice and an
ungodly 8.00am start to put on one of their
best performances this season. From the
kick-off, the boys put together phase after
phase of attack and looked certain to score
when a spilt ball led to a length of the field
try to Trinity. This 14 point turn around
proved to be the difference in a tight contest
as Cranbrook dominated in the forwards (led
by Brendan Traynor) with the Trinity backs
always threatening to break clear. With the
same commitment and a little luck, a win may
be just up the Pacific Highway.
16A
Won 12-7
Cranbrook 16As showed great character and
determination on the weekend with a nailbiting
victory over Trinity 12-7. Cranbrook
was relentless in defence all the way from the
first whistle and denied Trinity of any points
even though they had all the possession
and territory in the first half. It was a great
team defensive effort led by Max Riley and
Alex Rathie which lasted throughout the
game. Scoring opportunities were limited
but Cranbrook found themselves up 7-0 at
half time. The second half proved to be more
expansive with Ed Negrs utilising space
linking up with Declan Quin to gain metres
out wide and some good hard running up the
middle was displayed by Angus McNiven and
Tom Hill closer to the ruck. All of a sudden,
against the run of play, Trinity took advantage
of a Cranbrook dropped ball running 60
metres to score under the posts making it 7-7.
Cranbrook then hit back with a fantastic try
in the corner to make the score line 12-7. This
was a fantastic result for the team and it was
their relentless defence and character that got
them over the line.
16B
Won 55-7
Cranbrook recognised the need for a strong
start in their match up against Trinity. Words
during the warm-up focused on strong tackles
and committed support. The team delivered
against these demands, particularly in the
forwards where Lewis Barakat, Ed Bridgers
and Aaron Stern got their hands on the ball
and trucked it up effectively. This platform
put Trinity on the back-foot and, as they
attempted to kick their way out of trouble,
Cranbrook looked set to attack. First points
went to Felix Studdy who completed a double
hat-trick of tries during the match. The
combination of skills needed for these tries
was simply outstanding and he can be very
proud of his 30 point contribution to the total.
Not to be outdone, Jack Fagan linked together
a hat-trick of his own and his support play try
with James Coppola should go down as one of
the best of the season. Our halves combined
brilliantly again and the extras were added
on a number of occasions. A very dominant
display by an undefeated 16Bs team who are
going to have to work hard this weekend to
keep their run intact.
16C
Won 58-5
The Cranbrook 16Cs continued their
undefeated start to the season with another
strong performance against a disorganised
Trinity outfit winning 58-5. Classy attacking
play from the backs with a number of tries
scored after several sets of hands resulted
in two tries to Haunui Seaman and Oskar
Harrington. Fly-half Max Winton also scored,
slicing through the Trinity defence to score
under the posts. Dominating across the park
the forwards weren’t going to let the backs
have all the fun and tries to Marcus Corah,
Angus Crawford, Ed Schiller and a double for
Lachlan Roseman were a just reward for their
hard work. With a growing confidence the
boys are looking forward to the challenge of
Knox this weekend.
15A
Trinity 26 defeated Cranbrook 15 (Fraser
Ross, Ed Renton tries, Noah Busteed one
conversion, one penalty goal)
The As went into their game against Trinity
felling confident. An early penalty kick by
Noah Busteed gave Cranbrook a handy 3-0
lead in the first minutes of the game. However,
a head knock to Andrew Spira left us lacking
a little fire power and allowed Trinity to score
14 quick points. Luckily, a great try by Fraser
Ross kept Cranbrook in the game. Early in the
second half, Trinity managed to score again.
While Cranbrook bounced back with a welldeserved
try by our captain Edward Renton,
it was not enough and Trinity outplayed us.
