Hopefully more experience will see the
midfield settle down and allow the back
and front lines more time to coordinate and
control play.
8C
7 – 0 Loss
A definite improvement over last week in
terms of work rate but there still needs to be
more commitment from the side. That said,
however, they did sustain a defence against
Trinity’s 3rd best side and by the start of the
second-half had almost got the measure of
them, conceding only one goal in the half,
against 5 in the first half. Alexander Cunio,
Maximilian Bereny and Will Cahill all did
well, putting on good performances.
8D
12 – 0 Loss
Overwhelmed by the fourth best side (out of
seven) Trinity, Cranbrook did well to keep
their heads up and battle on to the end. The
team showed improvement again this week
but there is still much to do. Keeping the
opposition under pressure must be a priority
for next week’s match.
Alexander Floyd, Nelson Fishlock, Lewis
Hutcheon and Dominic Au-Yeung were
all beginning to work really well together,
especially during the second half of the match.
7A
0-4 loss
Never has a score line been more cruel than
the four nil result handed to the 7As. The
boys played a crisp and smooth game in both
halves, constantly holding possession, building
pressure and combining beautifully to move
the ball up field. At half-time Trinity were
lucky to hold a one nil advantage and both
the coach and I could smell a much deserved
victory. Cranbrook came out in the second
half with all guns blazing and created several
opportunities. Unfortunately, it was Trinity
who capitalised on their chances. Three errors
led to three goals and the game finished with
the boys feeling deflated. Simone, our super
coach, reminded them that games are first
played with the mind and I encourage the
team to work on their attitude in regard to
training, warming up and game preparation.
7B
0-2 loss
Up against the juggernaut of football, Trinity,
the 7Bs played a strong game and were
unlucky to lose two goals to nil. Again our
defenders held strong against some impressive
movement through the middle and sides by
Trinity but an inability to clear the ball from
our own box led to the first goal. We had our
chances in the first half but failed to put one
in the back of the net so we went to the break
down a goal but feeling like we were still in
it. The second half saw Cranbrook go wide
with great success. Josh D and Rory, a bolter
from the 7Cs, combined several times to
break the line and Trinity were forced to do a
heap of defending to keep us from equalising.
Unfortunately, a crisp counter attack meant
the game finished with Cranbrook two goals
down. We have the talent and the team to do
well but it is our attitude, to football and to
each other, that will need to improve if we
hope to compete with the top teams.
7C
3-1 loss
Goal scorer : Rory Steyn
All the boys in the 7Cs played very well
last weekend. Our defence started strongly,
however, unfortunately the opposition was
lucky enough to score two goals in the first
half. After half time we were hyped to make
a comeback and Rory Steyn, Marcus Reid
and Liam Emmett came in strong with Rory
scoring a much needed goal. Trinity was a
bit more determined on the day and came
through to score another goal before the
end of the game. Our defenders Huw Talbot,
Jeremy Chea and Laef Whittaker displayed
some great team work and kept Trinity on
their toes. Unfortunately, the end result (3– 1
loss) did not show the true story of the game.
Cranbrook 7C is developing well as a team and
looking forward to being more competitive in
the future.
7D
11- 0 loss
The boys started off well, however, they were
outplayed by their Trinity opposition this
week. Callum Hardingham saved numerous
goals and our strikers Monty Morrison-Budge
and Jack O’Donnell gave it their all but the
team was no match for the competition. As
the season progresses, the boys are developing
their skills and they will continue to improve
with the emphasis being on working as a team
and improving as a team. It was a credit to the
boys that they did not let their spirits drop
and everyone tried hard against a team that
seemed a bit fresher on the day.
Rugby
1st XV
Lost 8-33
The 1st XV ventured out to Summer Hill
undermanned but with a strong week of
preparation behind them. For the second
week in a row, the boys started full of
energy, dominating the early stages of the
game. This led to a sharp penalty goal from
Sam Renton to give the away team an early
lead. Concentration lapses and silly errors
then began to creep in with the boys in
white, making life increasingly difficult for
themselves for the rest of the half. These
errors allowed the big Trinity pack to make
an impact on the game as they shot out to a
comfortable lead at half time.
Not to be deterred, the Cranbrook boys
stuck to task in the second-half, dominating
possession and field position. With 5
players already missing the game, another
5 Cranbrook players left the field injured
by the 10 minute mark of the second half,
leaving a fatigued group to finish the game.
To Cranbrook’s credit they threw everything
they had at the Trinity line over a 20 minute
period with Jacob Leak providing immediate
impact off the bench to score Cranbrook’s first
try. Trinity’s resolute defence remained intact
for the rest of the game as they notched their
second victory of the season. Credit must go
to Cranbrook 2nd rower Harry Wales who
broke his collar bone but continued to play for
another 15 minutes.
2nd XV
Won 26-0
The 2nd XV produced a strong and
disciplined performance of rugby to come
away convincing 26 – 0 victors over Trinity.
From the opening whistle, the forwards set
an excellent platform with the advantage line
being found with regularity. Early tries to Max
Radoczy and Jacob Leak set the platform for
a convincing performance. Trinity’s scramble
defence prevented several more tries with
Cranbrook going to the break 19 – 0 but in
complete control. As good as Cranbrook’s
attack was in the first half, its defence in the
second half was just as good. Trinity had
the ball for a majority of the game but were
unable to penetrate. Cranbrook finished off
with another try to Fred Sanger in their most
convincing display of the season. The team
now sits at 3 from 4 as they enter a difficult
fixture against Knox.
