unfortunate for Andrea Pizzuto who has been
amazing all season. In the last three minutes
we learnt the hard way not to give away silly
free kicks and to fight to the final whistle.
We should have won the game. We knew it
and the boys in green knew it. However, it’s
another unbeaten week for the 2nd XI, leaving
us with one win and three draws. Next week
we are up against 1st place Knox, who are
known to be a very strong side.
4th XI
2-0 Loss
The match against Trinity began on a rousing
note with a number of early breaks by Max
McGrath and Barnaby Anson-Walsh which
resulted in a few shots on goal. Similarly,
Cranbrook’s defence was solid with Nathan
Lee and Matt Evat denying Trinity many
opportunities to score. However, with
persistence, Trinity found a way through and
much to Cranbrook’s surprise, scored late in
the first half. While Jeremy Etzine and Ryan
Thompson performed admirably in offence
and defence respectively, the result of the
second half mirrored the first. Cranbrook
unfortunately missed chances to score early
on and conceded another goal in the dying
moments of the game.
5th XI
1-0 Loss
Under the wise guidance of Captain Leonard
Topcu, the 5ths played their best match of the
season on Saturday. Early on Oliver Storey
put pressure on the Trinity defence with
some strong contests that led to a close shot
on goals by Marcus Wong. In defence, Matt
Williams played a very physical game and was
fantastic at clearing the ball out of Cranbrook’s
half. The second half was an evenly played
contest with Cranbrook surviving many
surges from the Trinity offence. A freakish
long shot unfortunately found its way through
the Cranbook’s defence and it was unlucky
that Aaron Frumar was unable to equalise
moments later. Overall, the team remained
positive and focused throughout and certainly
deserve a win in the near future.
6th XI
Lost 0 - 4
The Cranbrook 6XI turned up at Trinity on
Saturday, determined to come away with the
first win of the season. A devastating last
minute equalizer last week against Waverley
loomed in our memories as we took to the
field this week.
24
Terry Tang – dribbling in 2nds
The contest was fairly evenly matched,
however momentary lapses in concentration
and discipline to keeping team structure
meant two goals were leaked in each half,
resulting in a 4-0 loss. The back 4 of Marlon,
Saxon, Ted and Toby should be highly
commended on their efforts all game in
defence.
week lads as we set our eyes on Knox!
10A
Last Saturday the 10As made their way out to
Trinity with the hope of bagging their first win
of the season. We knew it would be difficult
though, seeing that Trinity were most likely
the best team in the competition. The first
half went well, as we kept the score level with
several opportunities up front with Theo,
Luca and Kiko; however we were unable to
capitalise. The second half, however, was not
as successful. They scored two quick goals
off free kicks, with their height adding as an
advantage. In the dying stages of the match,
Simon Rouse made a lengthy run before a
beautiful strike, however it just drifted left.
Overall, I thought our performance had
improved from last week, but we will continue
to train harder in the upcoming week.
0-0
The 10Bs played a very good game on the
weekend. In the first half, Cranbrook kicked
off and within the first 5 minutes Robert
Finlayson just missed a goal. At half time, it
was 0-0. We came out into the second half
playing strong, especially in the midfield with
Nicholas Georgas playing a lot of through
Kieran Montague – 50-50 for ball in 2nds
balls. Unfortunately the final score was 0-0.
We were very pleased with how the boys
played, but unfortunately, both teams were
equal.
Last weekend, the mighty Cranbrook Ds led
by deviously charismatic and handsome coach
Kelvin held off the powerhouse Trinity at a
one all tie. The first half was dominated by
Cranbrook but due to lack of communication
