POSTSCRIPT<br />

While <strong>the</strong> last pro<strong>of</strong>s <strong>of</strong> t<strong>his</strong> book were passing through <strong>the</strong> press, news reached us<br />

from <strong>Brescia</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> discovery <strong>of</strong> an interesting cycle <strong>of</strong> fifteenth century frescoes in a<br />

small church known as " La Disciplina" at Remedello Sopra. For details we refer our<br />

readers to an article in // Cittadino di <strong>Brescia</strong> <strong>of</strong> September 26, 1908, by Don Paolo<br />

Guerrini,' to whom <strong>the</strong> discovery is due, and who states that <strong>the</strong>y are good works <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>school</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Foppa</strong>. The Communal Archives at Remedello are said to contain a great<br />

number <strong>of</strong> documents which may elucidate <strong>the</strong> subject, and <strong>the</strong> task <strong>of</strong> examining <strong>the</strong>m<br />

has been entrusted to <strong>the</strong> writer <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> article, who, as already stated, is <strong>the</strong> Keeper <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Episcopal Archives at <strong>Brescia</strong>. Interesting results may <strong>the</strong>refore be expected, and<br />

it is possible that some additional light may be thrown upon <strong>the</strong> <strong>life</strong> and work <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Vincenzo</strong> <strong>Foppa</strong> and upon <strong>the</strong> <strong>his</strong>tory <strong>of</strong> <strong>his</strong> <strong>school</strong>, which would tend to confirm what<br />

has been said in <strong>the</strong> Introduction to t<strong>his</strong> book, with regard to <strong>the</strong> desirability and<br />

necessity <strong>of</strong> combining documentary research with ass<strong>the</strong>tic criticism.<br />
