rent-book we gain a little more information on t<strong>his</strong> subject (Doc. No. 73).^<br />

From t<strong>his</strong> entry it appears that Master <strong>Vincenzo</strong>'s house had a garden<br />

attached to it, <strong>the</strong> position <strong>of</strong> which is described as: "to <strong>the</strong> south <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

house owned by <strong>the</strong> heirs <strong>of</strong> Ser Venturino de' Sali." T<strong>his</strong> house was also in<br />

<strong>the</strong> Contrada Porta Nova on <strong>the</strong> spot where "<strong>the</strong> tower or fort <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Porta<br />
