Annual Student Competitions
Each year the UNI Construction Management Club has the opportunity to work with different
professional organizations within the construction industry. The Associated Schools of Construction
sponsors the Region IV Student Construction Management Competition. It is now the largest
competition in the United States with a total of 31‐36 teams competing from twelve universities in a
seven state area. It is an annual event that operates in conjunction with the Region IV's midyear
meeting and Career Fair. There are four areas of competition ‐ Heavy Civil, Commercial, Design Build,
and Residential. This Regional Competition is held in Nebraska City, Nebraska each year towards the end
of October. The winners of each of the seven Regional Competitions moves on to the National
Competition to determine a National Champion.
The Club also works with the Associated Builders and Contractors of Iowa to attend the ABC
National Student Construction Management Competition. This event is held in conjunction with the ABC
National Convention. In previous years approximately 20 teams from schools across the country come
to compete at this event. The team receives a set of plans and a specifications and is responsible for
putting together an estimate, schedule, project management plan, and site specific safety plan before
they get to the competition. Once at the competition, students are put into a bid day scenario in which
they have to complete a bid and incorporate all other aspects of the project into that bid. This year the
competition will be held in San Diego, California in the beginning of February.
