FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Viva ELVIS by Cirque du Soleil
Written and Directed by Vincent Paterson
at ARIA Resort & Casino at CityCenter
LAS VEGAS – Cirque du Soleil, in partnership with Elvis Presley Enterprises, a CKX, Inc company,
celebrates Elvis Presley with a harmonious fusion of dance, acrobatics and live music in Viva
ELVIS at ARIA Resort & Casino at CityCenter.
Created in the image of The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll – powerful, sexy, truly unique and larger than
life – the show highlights an American icon who transformed popular music and whose image
embodies the freedom, excitement and turbulence of his era.
Since its world premiere on February 19, 2010, Viva ELVIS has been heralded by critics as a surefire
hit that is here to stay in Las Vegas. TIME Magazine called it “symphonic and in every way
fantastic,” while the Los Angeles Times said it features “breathtaking acrobatics” and
“imaginatively reimagined music.” The Hollywood Reporter also hailed Viva ELVIS as a “triumph”
and the Toronto Star affirmed it as nothing short of “90 minutes of high-powered entertainment.”
Viva ELVIS focuses on the essential humanity of the one superstar whose name will forever be
linked with the history of Las Vegas: Elvis Presley. Significant moments in his life – intimate, playful
and grandiose – blend with timeless songs that remain as relevant today as when they first hit
the top of the charts.
In paying homage to the music of Elvis, Cirque du Soleil set out to present the songs of The King
of Rock ’n’ Roll in a contemporary form that evokes the spirit of Elvis in every way. Thirty of Elvis’
songs are used in the production, with remixes designed to accentuate and boost the
emotional charge of his performances. Elvis’ voice is the only male singing voice in Viva ELVIS,
joined occasionally by live female singers and an energetic live band that has guests dancing in
their seats. For the first time in over 30 years, Elvis fans and music-lovers alike are able to hear his
voice in its true and fantastic form – live and on stage in Las Vegas.
The nostalgia, modernity and raw emotion provided by Elvis’ music is brought to life every night
through the international and multi-talented cast. The 75 artists comprised of dancers,
musicians, singers, acrobats and lasso artists, seamlessly channel an exhilarating and youthful
tribute to Elvis’ life through imaginative ‘50s and ‘60s inspired costumes, unique dance numbers,
thrilling acrobatics, larger than life sets and heart-pumping live music.
Viva ELVIS is presented in the custom-built Elvis Theater and features a conventional proscenium
layout reminiscent of an opera house with a sound system that is amplified by the largest single
ring Fiber Optic Audio Transport system in the world. Comprised of approximately 20,000 square
feet, the stage, the backstage and wings accommodate the large-scale set elements and the
need for speed in changing scenes imposed by the thrilling pace of the show.
From a group of 20 street performers at its beginnings in 1984, Cirque du Soleil® is now a major
international organization providing high-quality artistic entertainment. Since its founding,
Cirque du Soleil has brought wonder and delight to more than 100 million spectators in more
