The William Penn Initiative Continued from previous page We must pledge our support for Hungarian organizations such as the American Hungarian Foundation, which works feverishly to promote the Hungarian culture and language. The William Penn Association must also provide support to our other Hungarian friends at the Hungarian American Coalition and American Hungarian Federation, two umbrella groups that work to unite Hungarian groups across the country and help preserve our rich heritage. In the next four years, the William Penn Association will pledge to continue financial support for these organizations and others who champion the Hungarian traditions. 7. Capital Improvements The William Penn Association will develop a longterm capital projects plan. The infrastructure at the Home Office is in need of improvement, and this plan will address these needs. Windows need replaced, the parking lot requires resurfacing and upgrading of office furniture is long overdue. The Capital Projects Plan will provide funding and a timetable for the completion of identified projects. 8. Technology The Association will utilize technology to better serve our members and to lower costs. • We will explore new opportunities to provide on-line services, such as paperless statements, direct deposit and on-line payment, all in an effort to improve efficiency and reduce costs. • We will continue to improve our website to provide timely information and links to other Hungarian websites. • We will develop and upgrade computer programs to enhance productivity and efficiency. 9. Improve How We Operate While controlling our expenses is central to all we want to accomplish in the next four years and beyond, we want to do more than merely squeeze costs out of what we do now. Our fundamental objective is to improve the way we operate--to rethink what we do and how we do it. Last year, we took a look at our organizational structure. We will act to implement changes identified by this survey, peeling away duplication and layers of activities that will free up the Association, making it leaner, more agile and more effective, enabling us to grow revenues faster and enhancing service to our members. 10. Employees We need to instill in our employees an appreciation of our legacy, opportunities and shared responsibilities and give them the tools to accomplish our goals. • Over the coming months, we will begin a new and improved dialogue with all employees through regular meetings and seminars. • The National President will convene bimonthly meetings with managers and employees to ensure that all are on board with this initiative and phases of this strategic plan are enacted. • The opportunity to obtain training and advanced training will be provided to all employees. • A performance appraisal and goal setting process will be developed for officers, managers and employees alike. • A review of current compensation practices will be undertaken to ensure that compensation is equitable and fair. William Penn Association is now on its way to becoming the Association we want it to be, an Association that grows by serving its members first, an Association agile enough to take advantage of opportunities and an Association that acts responsibly with employees who are proud to work here. I firmly believe that we have embarked on an era of renewed growth and that the changes we are making will lead to substantial growth. The Delegates We salute the 94 men and women who served as elected or ex-officio delegates to the William Penn Association’s 36th General Convention. Throughout the Convention, these members demonstrated the essence of Fraternalism. They may have been of different generations and backgrounds and hailed from different areas of the country, but they were united in their unwavering commitment to our Association and their fellow members. We thank them for their diligent service to their branches and their communities. Members like our delegates, pictured on the next several pages, keep the flame of Fraternalism burning brightly.
