Moved by Vivian Merchant, seconded by Mike Carlson:
THAT the Environmental Advisory Committee
recommends Council support discontinuing the use of
plastic water bottles within all City of Vernon operations;
AND FURTHER, that Council refer the issue to the City
of Vernon's lnter-departmental Sustainability Committee
to implement the discontinuation of the use of plastic
water bottles;
AND FURTHER, that Council drafts a letter to the
Regional District of the North Okanagan requesting that
Greater Vernon Water promote the excellent quality of tap
water, in light of the new Duteau Creek Water Treatment
Plant, as a safe alternative and consider a discontinuation
of water bottles in their operations,
CARRIED.
It was noted that the introduction of water fountains are being
encouraged in designs for public buildings.
Moved by Bill Darnell, seconded by Mike Carlson:
That the Environmental Advisory Committee recommends
Council consider the installation of publicly accessible
water fountains, throughout the community, where
appropriate, that are designed for individuals to refill their
reusable water containers,
CARRIED.
