The following points made in the video are outlined below:
o A large amount of plastic water bottles end up in
landfills and/or are burned creating toxic fumes in the
environment, ln actuality, only a small fraction of
plastic water bottles ever get recycled with as much as
80% going to landfills.
. Bottled water is less regulated than tap water and costs
2000 times more.
. Coca Cola products, Dasani and Aqua Fina are tap
water, the water is filtered and augmented before being
put into bottles, but it's still from the same source as
your tap water. 1t3 of all bottled water is simply purified
tap water.
. ln taste tests across the country tap consistently beats
bottled water.
. The amount of oil that is needed to make all the bottles
used for water in the us can power 1 million cars! Then
you have to add in the extra oil and pollution to ship it to
market, the energy used to store it and sell it to us.
Additional comments made by committee members include
the following:
. The Greater Vernon Region has spent an enormous
amount of money to make sure we have safe, clean
water to drink. The water quality coming from the
Duteau Water source is excellent; residents should be
encouraged to use it.
. The new Duteau Treatment Facility treats the water
with both chlorine and uV radiation to kill any bacteria
that may come from the pipes in which the water is
delivered. lt was pointed out that it is a Provincial law
that chlorine is added to tap water to ensure its safety'
with the intention that the city would be an example by
guiding and demonstrating that as a large corporation, we
óould easily get away from using bottled water, the Committee
passed the following resolutions:
