Conservation officers have shot three mature male coyotes
and a younger female - all within 800 meters of the Ellison
Pathway in Vernon. Killing the problem coyotes is not
considered a cull but a targeted removal of specific problem.
Conservation Officers believe that they have taken out the
problem coyotes.
Conservation Officers were helpful in providing educational
information for signage, which has already been installed, to
warn individuals walking on trails in the area and to be aware
when walking small pets.
city staff will be working in conjunction with the safe
Communities Unit to organize fufther educational material for
the community.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
REGIONAL GROWTH
STRATEGY
The committee members were requested to review the
documentation circulated at the last meeting with reference to
the Regional Growth strategy and bring their comments or
suggestions back to this meeting for further discussion.
. A brief update was provided advising that Regional
Growth Strategy recommendations are mid process at
the Regional District of the North Okanagan with Bylaw
readings anticipated to be conducted by March 2011'
. lt is expected that more information will be referred to
the Committee.
Roseanne Van Ee entered the meeting at 4:20 pm.
NEW BUSINESS:
PLASTIC WATER
BOTTLES AT
CITY FACILITIES
Council has referred a suggestion of discontinuing the use of
plastic water bottles within City facilities to the Environmental
Advisory Committee for review and discussion.
A video entitled "Story of Bottled Water" was presented. lt
was suggested that Council also view the video as it is
empowering to everyone to make a difference in the
environment and to develop pride around the quality of our
water and protect it.
Moved by Mike Carlson, seconded by Roseanne Van Ee:
THAT the Environmental Advisory Committee
recommends that Council views the video "Story of
Bottled Water".
