this time would include retaining the services of a coordinator/consultant to compile
a report outlining the details and process for each of its the components, including
partnerships, cost estimates, grant writing and fundraising plan. A committee made
up of School District No. 22 administration, school staff, students and community
partners would steer the project. This is an important foundation to ensure the
success of such a program in the community.
2. A description of the project and the intended outcomes are outlined in Attachment
2: 2010 Application Form - Round 2, along with a list of community partners. The
proposal includes creating a space which can be utilized as an educational tool for
students and community members alike. Shared spaces such as this provide
opportun ities for commu nity collaboration and showcasing conservation strateg ies,
food security, healthy eating and more.
3. The new Vernon Secondary School building is currently under construction. This
provides an ideal opportunity to introduce a new garden and involve the
surrounding community in a shared learning initiative.
4. The Provincial letter of support to School District No. 22 dated December 16, 2010
(Attachment 1) states that a letter of support from the local government is required
in order for the project to receive full approval.

ln 2008 Council endorsed two similar School District No. 22 funding applications.
Letters were written by staff for the 2008 School Community Connections funding
program in support of the Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs Community Literacy
Proposal and the Ellison Elementary and Clarence Fulton Secondary School
Community Garden Proposal.
