You can help grow and preserve Calgary's urban forest . The NeighbourWoods
Program is a residential street tree planting initiative developed by The City to
encourage citizens and communities to do their part to make our city green.
All residents of pafticipating communities are invited to apply to become stewards or
caretakers of specific new trees on City boulevards or back-of-walk areas.
How does the NeighbourWoods Program
work?
The City will:
o Provide trees to be planted.
o Prepare a planting site for the trees.
o Provide tree care information and free training for the registered resident.
o Help with the planting process.
o Provide extended healthcare and maintenance to the trees.
Registered residents are responsible for:
o Planting the tree(s) and choosing the species.
o Tending the tree(s), including watering and watching for pests and diseases.
o Contributing $30 per tree for an efficient watering bag.
o All new trees will be owned by The City and will be planted on City property.
Who can participate?
The NeighbourWoods program is available in select communities only. These
communitíes have been chosen based on need. Because of infill development,
infrastructure repair and naturally-agíng tree populations, these communities have
experienced a higher rate of tree loss than most in Calgary.
The eligible communities for 2O11 are:
r Country Hills
o Country Hills Village
o Coventry Hills
r Fairview
o Glenbrook
o Harvest Hills
o Northern Hills
