SUBJECT: Sustainability Events Program and Corporate Sponsorship
PURPOSE:
To seek support for continuing the established Sustainability Events program in 2011 in
support of ongoing transportation demand management and environmental stewardship
outreach and education initiatives.
RECOMMENDATION:
THAT Council supporl the 2011 Sustainability Events program, as outlined in Attachment 1.
ALTERNATIVES & IMPLICATIONS:
ANALYSIS:
Council may choose to endorse only selecl 2011 Sustainability Events at this time. This
would resulí in staff providing Counóil with information about the remaining sustainability
events and initiatives individually throughout the year'
Council may choose not to endorse the 2011 Sustainability Events program at this time'
This would result in the need for staff to address public outreach initiatives and associated
events on an ad hoc basis throughout the year'

B. Rationale:
ln an effort to support transportation demand management and environmental
stewardship priorities'set out in City of Vernon policy including the official Community
plan (OCp),'the Transportation Master Plan and the Environmental Management
Areas (EMÂ) Strategy, the City has undertaken a series of community awareness
initiatives reíated toiansportai¡on demand management (TDM) and environmental
stewardship. Collectively, these events are referred to as Sustainability Events.
These initiatives reach a broad portion of the community and familiarize community
members with sustainable optiohs. Collaborative community events are a practical
