Dispatch (CAD) technology. This is a maior operational shortcoming that extends
already eicessiue responËe times in more remote areas of the City. lndeed, the current
VFRS Oispatcn infrastructure, which processes approximately 2800 emergency calls a
year and ðervices over 35,000 people, is at least a generation behind that of other
óomparable municipalfire depártmbnts. For these reasons, sfafus quo is not an option
within the context of the current VFHS dispatch capability.
Strategic DÍrection
Whichever dispatch solution is adopted, it is envisioned that the initial implementation
will include thé cAD and RMS components only. This approach was chosen to keep
initial costs to a minimum, and to provide Council with a baseline from which to select
bare bones, modern dispatch solution that will have an immediate and significant impact
on response times and public safety. Either system can be expanded in subsequent
fiscal yeurs to include dòsired capabitity enhanceme¡ts such as "rip and runs," mobile
