Krieghoff Semprio In-Line Repeating Rifle
CAUTION!
Read and understand all instructions before using this or any other
firearm. Read, learn, and observe the safety procedures described on
pages 4 - 7. Always point a firearm in a safe direction so that it does
not endanger anybody, including you. Shots can be dangerous to over
400 yards, and bullets may travel as far as three miles or more. Do not
discharge a gun towards any hard surface, including water, because
both shot and bullets can ricochet in unpredictable directions.
Be certain that anyone you allow to use your firearm understands all of
the safety rules and is familiar with the gun before taking possession of
the firearm or shooting it.

Safe Handling of Firearms – For Krieghoff
Semprio In-line Repeating Rifle
Warning – very important:
Anyone who handles this firearm MUST
read and follow these Instructions before
using this firearm. Firearm safety is the
user’s responsibility! Think Gun Safety!
General safety cautions for the use of firearms
P Before using a firearm be sure that you
fully understand how to handle and
operate a firearm. Read and follow the
instructions shown in this safety manual
before using your firearm.

P Always point the muzzle in a safe
direction, away from yourself and others.
Never point a firearm in the direction of
anything you do not intend to shoot.
P Always handle a firearm as if it were
loaded and ready to fire.
P Never rely on any mechanical device as a
safety.
P Keep your finger off the trigger and
outside the trigger guard until you are
ready to shoot.
P Keep the action open and the gun
unloaded until you are ready to use it.
P If you pass a firearm to another person,
completely unload the weapon and lock
open the action.
P Before loading a firearm make sure the
barrel is clear of obstructions (water, soil,
branches, jammed bullets).
P Make sure that the set trigger is not set.
P Make sure you load your firearm only
when you intend to shoot right away.
P Make sure the cocking device is always in
the “uncocked” position. The rifle should
be cocked only when you immediately
intend to fire.

P Before firing always check the target and
the backstop and make sure that there is
no danger for people or property.
P Never point your firearm at a person or
yourself or anything you do not intend to
shoot at.
P Always keep in mind that bullets can travel
three miles (2-3 km) or more and can
cause serious injury, death or damage to
property.
P Never shoot a rifle straight up in the air or
at a high angle of elevation.
P Never touch the trigger of a loaded firearm
until you are aiming at the target.
P Think before shooting. Once you pull the
trigger, you can not take back the shot!
P Shooting a firearm is a serious sport. There
is no room for joking around or horseplay
when handling a firearm.
P Do not use drugs or alcohol when
shooting and do not shoot if you are tired
or impaired in any way.
P Do not use any ammunition other than
original high quality commercially manufactured
ammunition in good condition.
P The use of improperly reloaded cartridges
can damage the firearm and cause injury,
death or damage to property. The use of

any reloaded ammunition will void the
warranty.
P Use only ammunition that is identical with
the caliber of your firearm.
Never use ammunition that exceeds
industry standard pressure specifications.
P Carry only one caliber of ammunition
when shooting to avoid grabbing the
wrong ammunition by mistake.
P Dispose of unwanted ammunition safely.
P Make sure that nobody is in the ejection
area. Ejected shells can cause serious
injury.

P Always avoid ricochets. Never shoot at
a hard surface such as rock, or a liquid
surface such as water.
P Never carry a rifle with a round in the
chamber or loaded in any fashion.
P Never enter or leave a vehicle with a
loaded firearm. Also never climb a treestand
and never climb over obstacles
(fences, trees, creeks, hedges etc.) with a
loaded firearm.
P Make sure your firearm is in top mechanical
condition before firing it. Check your
firearm over for any visible signs of wear
or mechanical problems. Have a gunsmith

or other qualified firearms expert check
your gun over periodically for mechanical
problems.
P DO NOT modify this firearm in any way
P Never use a firearm if it fails to function
properly. Never force a jammed action as a
round may explode causing serious injury,
possibly death, or severe damage to your
firearm.
P Always unload a firearm before laying it
down, traveling or storing. Also make sure
your firearm is not loaded and open the
action.
P You are responsible for making sure
the firearm at all times and that it is not
accessible to other parties, especially
children.
PAlways lock your firearm when not in use to
prevent unauthorized or untrained persons
from having access to your firearm.
P Always keep and store the firearm and
ammunition in separate locked receptacles
out of reach of children and other
persons.
P Important: Firearms must be unloaded
before cleaning.

P If you sell your firearm make sure that all
documents including the owner’s manual
are handed over to the recipient of the
firearm.
P Always wear ear protection and safety
shooting glasses when shooting.
If you do not follow the above
instructions and safety warnings of
your firearm can cause serious injury,
death, or damage to property when
uses or handled.

"Take-Down" – Assembly
PWarning! Before disassembling the
Semprio rifle, make sure the rifle is
completely unloaded.
The Semprio is a rifle, which take-down
easily disassembles for compact stowing
and storage.

Following the instructions on page 16 of the
manual, make sure the cocking device –
located on the top tang where a conventional
safety is usually located – is in the
uncocked position.
Turn the cocking device to the right until it
reaches the 2 o’clock position, and lines up
with the white arrow indicator.
The rifle is now unlocked.
With the cocking device in the 2 o’clock
position, push slightly on the cocking device.
This unlocks the action. Move the barrel
assembly forward to open the rifle.

Slide the barrel assembly with forearm
forward to its stopping position.
The rifle is now completely open.
Locate the release button located on the
magazine housing on the rear right-hand side
of the barrel.
Slide the release button back toward you, as
illustrated in the photo.
At the same time, slide the barrel assembly
forward until it completely separates from the
frame portion of the rifle.

The two main components of the rifle are
now separated and ready for stowing or
storage.

The cocking device, located on the top tang
where a conventional safety would normally
be found, must be turned to the right to the
2 o’clock position before assembly begins.
Push on the cocking device once to make
certain that the locking bolt is unlocked and
fully extended, otherwise the rifle parts wil
not mate .

As shown in the photo, the barrel must be in
straight alignment with the locking bolt and
guide rod.
Slide the barrel onto the locking bolt and
guide rod as shown. Slide all the way until
the two pieces are fully engaged and the rifle
can be closed and securely locked.
The barrel easily slides into place.
Do not use excessive force!
Proper alignment is essential. If you feel
resistance, start over.
Move the cocking device to the left until it
reaches the 12 o’clock position - completing
full engagement and lock-up.

"Take-Down" – "Click-and-Go" Sling Swivel
The “Click-and-Go” sling swivel comes
standard on the Semprio Rifle and is
designed with a quick detach button for
easy attachment and detachment.
To attach, simply push in the quick detach
button and insert the swivel into the swivel
socket.
To detach, simply push in the button and pull
the swivel away from the wood.
For different sling position and use; for
example for driven hunts, the swivels can be
turned by 90 degrees so that the open loop
stays parallel with the barrel.

PATTENTION! Read and follow the
safety instructions on pages 4-7
before loading the firearm!
When loading the magazine, be careful not to
damage the upper magazine lips.
To load the Semprio - For smaller Caliber Group 0,
1, 2, or 3 ammunition (see also caliber group summary
on page 27), insert up to four (4) cartridges
in the magazine. For Caliber Group 4 ammunition,
insert up to three (3) cartridges in the magazine.
The top round of the magazine will always be
chambered when the rifle is closed.
However, a magazine loaded with three (3)
cartridges or less can be inserted into the rifle
without chambering a round upon closing.
To close the rifle without chambering the top
round, press down slightly on the top cartridge
while slowly closing the rifle, allowing the locking

bolt to slide over the magazine without pushing a
cartridge into the chamber.
Open the rifle fully so that the magazine slot is
completely free.
CAUTION
Note: If four cartridges are inserted into the
magazine, you cannot prevent the top round
from being chambered when closing the rifle.
Insert the magazine into the magazine slot
without canting the magazine. Apply slight
pressure until the magazine is fully inserted
and clicks into place.

The magazine can also be loaded through
the ejection port while inserted into the rifle.
Open the rifle and push the cartridges from
the top of the ejection port down into the
magazine.
Closing the rifle pushes the top cartridge out
of the magazine and into the chamber.

If the magazine is loaded with three (3)
cartridges or less, the top cartridge can be
pushed down slightly while closing the rifle
– allowing the locking bolt to slide over the
top cartridge without pushing it into the
chamber.

If there is a cartridge in the chamber, a safety
interlock prevents the action from opening.
The action must therefore be opened manually
to unload the gun.
Do this by swinging the cocking device from
the "uncocked" position (cocking device
towards the back) toward the right, until the
mark on the cocking device covers the right
mark on the action housing. Lightly press the
cocking device forward while simultaneously
pulling the front of the gun forward.
After shooting, pull the forearm forward to
unlock the bolt head (spring-loaded travel in
the forearm). When the forearm is pulled back
further than the "play" distance, the bolt head
releases and the action opens.

To unload the rifle, first open it fully.
Follow the instructions on page 18.

The first cartridge will be extracted from the
chamber and can be easily caught in your
hand as illustrated above.
Release the magazine containing any
remaining cartridges by pulling the magazine
release button back towards you as
illustrated above.

The magazine is easily removed by pulling it
down and out of the rifle bottom.

Krieghoff Combi-Cocking Device – Cocking, Uncocking, Opening the Rifle
PATTENTION! Only cock the rifle when
you are ready to shoot! ALWAYS point
the rifle in a safe direction away from
others and yourself to avoid serious
injury or death. Never point the
rifle at anything you do not intend
to shoot or any hard surfaces such as
rocks, concrete or water. Bullets can
ricochet and cause serious injury or
death.
The Semprio does not have a conventional
safety. The Semprio’s cocking device instead
acts as the safety. You carry the rifle completely
uncocked and manually cock it just
prior to firing.
The rifle is immediately ready to fire once the
cocking device is in its cocked, firing position.

As illustrated in the photo, the cocking device
is uncocked and in a SAFE position when
moved to the rear position, where it protrudes
approximately 1/2" behind the top tang.
The cocking device controls all functions of
the action mechanism with the exception of
actual pulling of the trigger.
To cock the rifle in preparation for immediate
firing, push the cocking device all the way
forward, until it engages with a slight “click”.

With the cocking device in the forward
position and fully engaged, the rifle is ready
to be fired. The cocking device remains in
the forward cocked position throughout the
repeating firing sequence, until manually
moved to the rear, uncocked position.

To uncock the rifle, push forward on the lower
part of the cocking device as shown.
Release pressure, allowing the cocking device
to slide to the rear, uncocked position.
The striker is now disengaged, and in a safe
position. In this position there is no possibility
of an accidental discharge.
The cocking device is shown in the uncocked
rear position. The rifle is now uncocked and
absolutely safe.

The cocking device, located on the top
tang, opens the action for unloading or
disassembling the rifle.
After a shot has been fired, the Semprio´s
action opens automatically.
When the rifle is dry fired, the action may
also open. This is no malfunction.

To open the action, make sure the cocking
device is in the rear uncocked position.
Turn it to the 2 o’clock position.
With the cocking device in the 2 o'clock
position, push slightly on the cocking device.
This unlocks the action. Move the barrel
assembly forward to open the rifle.

Finally, turn the cocking device to the left
until it reaches the 12 o’clock uncocked
resting position.

Action "Safe-to-Carry" Position
PATTENTION! When in hunting parties
of more than one person, you should
always unload and carry the Semprio
in the “Safe-to-Carry” position until
you are actually ready to take a shot.
The “Safe-to-Carry” position of the Semprio
allows you to carry the gun with a partially
open action.
This clearly signals to everyone in your
hunting party that the rifle is unloaded.
Although the action is slightly open the
“Safe-to-Carry” design minimizes the chance
of dirt penetrating the action.

After completely unloading the rifle, close the
action to the red line as illustrated.
Locate the locking slide on the left side of the
action.
Pull it rearwards as shown while
simultaneously continuing to close the action
until you feel the locking slide engage.

Check that the action is now partially open
and locked in this position. To unlock the rifle
in order to open it again, push the locking
slide forward towards the muzzle. This
unlocks it from the “Safe-to-Carry” position
and the action can be freely opened again.
The locking slide can also be operated as
described above to lock the action completely
open.

Krieghoff Universal Trigger System – Set Trigger Function
PWARNING! Make sure that the set
trigger is NOT set prior to loading
the firearm.
NEVER engage the set trigger unless
you are immediately ready to fire the
rifle!
Use the set trigger feature ONLY
under very controlled circumstances
such as shooting from a rest.
The Krieghoff Universal Trigger System
provides a clean, crisp trigger pull of
approximately 1,250 grams (just under 3 lbs.)
and an adjustable set trigger for controlled
shooting from a rest.

Engage the set trigger only when intending
to use it for an immediate shot by pushing
the trigger finger forward as shown until it
noticeably engages.
The trigger is now set and will release at the
slightest touch.
If the opportunity to shoot passes, unset
the set trigger IMMEDIATELY.
First, hold the rifle in a safe direction
uncock the rifle, operating the cocking device
as previously described on pages 16-19.
Gently support the trigger between the
thumb and trigger finger as shown.

Pull the trigger back slightly until the set
position noticeably disengages with a “click”.
The set trigger operation should be practiced
repeatedly with an unloaded rifle until you
are confident with the procedure.
PWarning! A set trigger will go off at
the slightest touch!!
Use the set trigger feature only under
optimal and controlled conditions and
only when shooting from a rest!
Always point the rifle in a safe
direction, away from yourself
and others.

Krieghoff Universal Trigger System – Set Trigger Regulation
The rifle must always be unloaded,
uncocked and the set trigger NOT SET
when making any set trigger adjustments.
The set trigger travel and pull can be
adjusted by using a small allen wrench to
turn the set trigger adjustment screw
located in the trigger area of the gun.
PTo shorten the trigger pull and shorten
the travel: turn the small adjustment
screw slightly clockwise.
PTo increase set trigger pull and travel:
turn small regulating screw slightly
counterclockwise.
We recommend only a qualified gunsmith
perform any and all set trigger adjustments.

Shooting and Repeating
PAttention! Only cock the rifle just prior
to firing! Always point the rifle in a
safe direction!
When you are prepared to fire at your target,
cock the rifle by pushing the manual cocking
device from the SAFE position forward to the
cocked, safety off position.

Making sure the rifle is aimed in a safe
direction and at your target, pull the trigger
to fire the rifle.
After shooting, the Semprio is unlocked and
subsequently released by pulling forward on
the forearm. After the rifle opens, the repeating
sequence is completed by moving the barrel
assembly forward and then pulling it back
towards you to the closed position. In the
unlikely event of a misfire, the action has to be
opened manually. (Please refer to page 14).

During the forward movement, the fired
(empty) cartridge is ejected through the
ejection port.
To complete the repeating sequence, cycle
the forearm/barrel assembly firmly back
towards you to lock the rifle again.
During this movement, a new cartridge is fed
from the magazine into the chamber.
The gun is now re-cocked, firmly closed and
locked.

The rifle is immediately ready to fire again.

Changing the Barrel
The Semprio features easily interchangeable
barrels and allows barrels of different calibers
to be interchanged.
If barrels are changed within the same caliber
group, no other parts require changing.
If barrels are changed outside their caliber
group, the magazine also has to be changed
and possibly also the locking bolt head.
Disassemble the rifle as described on pages
9-10 before changing the barrels.

Loosen the two captive mounting screws on
the forearm using the tool provided.
NOTE: To avoid losing it, forearm holding
screw is designed so that it cannot back all
the way out.

After the holding screw is loosened, separate
the barrel from the wooden forearm and
barrel bedding.

Line up the new barrel with the barrel
bedding shown.
Ensure that the receiver is correctly positioned
for the mating piece on the box magazine.

Changing the Barrel
Hand tighten the two mounting screws. After
reassembly, the rifle is ready to use again.
Assemble the rifle.
Refer to page 8 for assembly.

Changing the Locking Bolt Head
PATTENTION! When installing a barrel
outside the caliber group of the
present barrel, the magazine and/or
locking bolt head may also need to be
changed.

First, disassemble the rifle into its main
components as described on pages 9-10.
Then, slide the locking bolt head to the side
and off the holding post as shown. You will
feel slight resistance before the locking bolt
head comes free.
Finally, completely remove the locking bolt
head from the rifle.

Re-attach the new locking bolt head into the
locking bolt head post in reverse order as
shown.
The locking bolt head seats firmly into place
when inserted correctly.
Each locking bolt head is clearly marked with
one or more stars (*) for the caliber group it
is intended for. Before inserting the locking
bolt head, check to make sure it is marked
for the caliber group you intend to use.
* Caliber Group 0 (.223 Rem)
** Caliber Group 1 (.243 Win., .308 Win.)

Adjusting the Open Sight
The Semprio comes standard with open
sights installed. The open sight is easily
adjusted with an allen wrench.
Adjusting the middle sight corrects the
horizontal point of impact (left picture).
To adjust the horizontal point of impact, use
an allen wrench to loosen the middle sight
screw in a counterclockwise direction.
Move the middle sight in the direction of
the horizontal point of impact needs to be
corrected. To correct shots hitting too far to
the left, move the sight to the right and vice
versa; then retighten. Repeat this procedure
until the sight is adjusted to your satisfaction,
then firmly tighten the middle sight screw.

When the horizontal point of impact is
adjusted to your satisfaction, firmly tighten
the middle sight screw.
Adjusting the front sight corrects the
vertical point of impact (right picture).
An adjustment for the vertical point of
impact can be adjusted by turning the front
sight screw in either a clockwise or counterclockwise
direction as shown.

To raise the point of impact, turn the screw
counterclockwise. To lower the point of
impact, turn the screw clockwise.
The front sight adjustment is such that each
“click” adjusts the vertical point of impact
approximately 1.5 cm (0.6”) at 50 meters
(55 yds).
General Comments
When the rifle is closed, the forearm can be
pulled back about 5 mm against a spring.
When released, it slides back to the original
position. This "play" is normal and is required
to unlock the action after taking the shot.
When the rifle is open a slight movement
between the barrel forearm assembly and
action can be felt. This is normal and required
by design.
When firing the rifle, be sure to keep your
hand on the checkered part of the forearm
barrel assembly to avoid injuring your hand
during the movement.

General Comments / Maintenance
When inserting an under-loaded magazine
into the rifle, close the rifle very slowly to
avoid any injury.
Maintenance
In addition to routine gun cleaning and
maintenance, the following should be
observed:
To maintain optimal operation of the in-line
action mechanisms, the inside rails located
on the rear of the barrel assembly should be
lubricated with a thin layer of Teflon
lubrication. Teflon based lubricants have
excellent gliding characteristics.

Frequently Asked Questions
The guide rod should always be lightly oiled
using a special gun oil such as Krieghoff Gun
Pro.
NOTE: Do not use grease in this area.
Troubleshooting
Barrel and action do not fit together
Possible causes:
- The locking bolt head is in the locked
position.
- The locking bolt head is not properly
inserted and not fully seated in position.
Action is completely open and cannot be
closed
Possible causes:
- “Safe to Carry” position is engaged.
- Interference from an object or dirt.

Rifle cannot be closed completely
Possible causes:
- Magazine is not completely seated in the
magazine compartment.
- Interference from an object or dirt.
Unable to lock rifle
Possible causes:
- Wrong ammunition loaded.
- Wrong locking bolt head installed.
- Dirt in the rotation area of the locking bolt
head and corresponding chamber area.
Rifle jams during repeat firing sequence
Possible causes:
- Action was not fully opened to the stop
position: which prevented the spent
cartridge from being ejected and new
cartridge from being chambered.
What to do : Uncock the rifle, remove the
magazine and carefully remove the jammed
cartridges.
Impossible to cock rifle
Possible causes:
- The cocking device is in the 2 o’clock
position instead of the 12 o’clock position
required for cocking.

Rifle fails to fire when trigger is pulled
Possible causes:
- Rifle was not cocked before firing.
- Rifle was not completely closed.
- Faulty ammunition caused misfire.
Empty cartridge does not eject when
action is opened
Possible causes:
- Ejector claw is damaged.
- Check barrel chamber for rust or debris.
Rifle uncocks when closed fast and hard
Possible causes:
- Trigger pull is set too low.
What to do: Rifle must be checked at the
Krieghoff factory or by a skilled gunsmith.
After firing, rifle is hard to open or will
not open at all
Possible causes:
- Cocking device not operated properly.
Try to uncock the rifle by using the cocking
device as instructed.
- If rifle fails to open by operating the
cocking device, this indicates the last
round fired through the rifle caused
extremely high pressure and possibly
damaged the rifle.
Immediately contact Krieghoff or a
skilled gunsmith for further instruction.
Cannot set the set trigger
Possible causes:
- Set trigger pull needs to be increased and
made heavier.

- Have rifle checked by a skilled gunsmith.
“Click and Go” sling swivel does not attach
Possible causes:

- Swivel position is not parallel to gun.
- Dirt in the sling attachment port.
