110 PER CENT TENNYSON EDITION 0 Director of Sport Mr Damian Wright Welcome to Round 1 of GPS fixtures for Terrace hosting Brisbane Grammar School in Rugby and Basketball. The Basketball round will be spread across five courts (four venues) with BGS generously providing two courts to allow all boys from Years 5-12 the opportunity of playing on Saturday morning. It is a compressed schedule to allow boys from both communities the opportunity to travel to Tennyson to attend the opening of the Old Boys’ Grandstand. The Basketball program for 2014 has been working hard behind the scenes - being heavily involved in club fixtures and attending training/skill sessions. This is a program moving forward with expert leadership from Sam Mackinnon and good coaching from many experienced men off the court –the shining lights being Matthew Hamilton-Smith and Andrew Latimer. Basketball is getting stronger at Terrace and the young men who will represent the College this weekend deserve recognition for their hard work. The First V are a strong team of very talented boys who are looking for back-to-back victories over BGS after winning their fixtures in 2013. The Rugby program is the largest of all the sporting programs at the College and encompasses well over 750 boys. With that many boys involved it is a challenge every week to find games, training fields, and especially suitable coaches. The task of steering this formidable program is assigned to Tyron Mandrusiak, one of nature’s true gentlemen, who is by far the most patient man I know in dealing with the numerous and varied elements of feedback he receives daily. It is appropriate to recognise the new opportunities for many in the Terrace Community upon reflection of the outstanding generosity of the BGS Community when we were at our neediest in 2011 following the floods. BGS opened their doors and their playing fields at Northgate to allow Terrace a home game. I wish all Terrace Gentlemen the best of luck for the season ahead – remembering to always compete to you highest level and at all times in the spirit of good sportsmanship and humility.
