Over its 40-year history Tennyson
has been one of the premier
sporting facilities in the country.
However, it means far more to
the Terrace Family than that. It
is a place where we are bound
together, where each of us belongs
and all of our talents can
be found.
In many ways, Tennyson is like a
second home. That is not a platitude.
It is simply the most apt description
of the place Tennyson
holds in our hearts.
When you walk through its
gates, as a Terracian, you know
that it is your home. When you
run onto the fields and begin to
play, a sense of belonging and
worthiness overwhelms because
you know that every single one
of your brothers wants you to
succeed. It doesn’t matter if they
are watching you play; your ability
is not important; whether or
not you are acquainted is even
irrelevant. No matter what, they
will show you nothing but encouragement
on the field, because
you all belong to the Red
and Black.
Your success is theirs too.
I struggle to imagine many other
times in a person’s life, when
they might feel such a strong
sense of belonging, worthiness
and unity. Indeed, the absolute
support of 1400 brothers is not
common. That is why Terracians
cherish each moment on these
fields.
The Old Boys’ Grandstand is a
tribute to the rare gifts that
Tennyson has brought us. For
many years to come it will enhance
the lives of thousands of
many more Terracians.
