BC Transit – Air Brake Course

A spring type park brake serves three important functions:
•Its primary function is to provide a reliable means of
securing an air brake equipped vehicle. (parking brake)
•It can serve as an emergency brake if an air loss
occurred during vehicle operation.
•It can be used in place of the air operated primary
service brakes in a dual air equipped vehicle. (We will
study dual air systems later in the air brake course.)
