Habitat Restoration: Taming the Wild
environmental threats to our native and fragile prairie ecosystem
and explore ways to help preserve our natural heritage. Park
Naturalists will discuss identification of natural and invasive species,
their impact on our environment along with methods of restoration
such as prescribed burning and manual removal. Several service
projects will be completed throughout the session. Limited

Hunter Education
This 3-day course is the official training program that
provides kids ages 11–18 with the knowledge, skills and
must attend all 3 days and complete the 15 hours of
safety education to receive their certification card
which is required to obtain a hunting license. Parents
are strongly encouraged to attend with their children.

Kansas Kritters
Get up close and personal with a different animal each week at
get to check out the furs and other animal artifacts. Each child
will receive a special gift to remind them of the featured critter.

Let’s Go Creeking!
For once it’s ok to get down and dirty! Bring an old pair of
sneakers and come prepared to get wet and muddy looking for
crawdads, mussels and tadpoles in the Cowskin Creek. Pawnee
Prairie Park, 9910 W. Pawnee. Meet at the Picnic Shelter (enter
from Maize Road). Instructed by staff from the Great Plains
Nature Center. Ages 7–12.

Oak Park Rangers
Get in touch with nature while exploring Oak Park! Learn about
produce. We’ll hike the trails, watch for birds, see what fun things
we can find along the way and enjoy a nutty snack afterwards.

Outdoor Adventure Skills
Answer the call of the wild! Boys and girls will learn how to use a
compass and navigate from point to point through the outdoors.
They’ll also pick up some preparation skills for hiking and
camping. Ages 9–15.

Sandbar Sleuths

The Slime’s ALIVE
It’s green! It’s soggy! It’s ALIVE with all kinds of critters. Be brave
and reach in to feel the algae. Take a closer look to learn more
about the algae and its environment. Offered by the WATER

SPECIAL POPULATIONS
Special Artists
This class is designed for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Express yourself through art! Beads for jewelry, fuse beads,
shrink art and finger painting are just a few items that will be
used to make your special artwork. These projects are geared
towards each individual’s ability and will focus on eye hand
coordination, dexterity and other useful skills. Parents are
encouraged to assist. Ages 10+.

LEARN TO ROW
Offered by the Wichita Rowing Association

Introduction to Rowing
Now’s your chance to learn about rowing! Experienced
members of the Association will introduce you to the
types of boats, rowing terminology and the correct
rowing style. River conditions permitting, enjoy an
opportunity to row on the Arkansas River. Maximum 10
students. Fee: $30

Sculling
five classes! Class starts with an introduction to rowing,
terminology and boat identification. Proper form and
techniques are demonstrated and practiced prior to
actually rowing on the Arkansas River. Weekday classes
are from 6–8 pm and Sat. class is from 9 am–noon.
Maximum 6 students. Fee: $110
