Habitat Restoration: Taming the Wild<br />
<br />
environmental threats to our native and fragile prairie ecosystem<br />
and explore ways to help preserve our natural heritage. <strong>Park</strong><br />
Naturalists will discuss identification <strong>of</strong> natural and invasive species,<br />
their impact on our environment along with methods <strong>of</strong> restoration<br />
such as prescribed burning and manual removal. Several service<br />
projects will be completed throughout the session. Limited<br />

Hunter Education<br />
This 3-day course is the <strong>of</strong>ficial training program that<br />
provides kids ages 11–18 with the knowledge, skills and<br />

safety education to receive their certification card<br />
which is required to obtain a hunting license. Parents<br />
are strongly encouraged to attend with their children.<br />

Let’s Go Creeking!<br />
For once it’s ok to get down and dirty! Bring an old pair <strong>of</strong><br />
sneakers and come prepared to get wet and muddy looking for<br />
crawdads, mussels and tadpoles in the Cowskin Creek. Pawnee<br />
Prairie <strong>Park</strong>, 9910 W. Pawnee. Meet at the Picnic Shelter (enter<br />
from Maize Road). Instructed by staff from the Great Plains<br />

Outdoor Adventure Skills<br />

The Slime’s ALIVE<br />
It’s green! It’s soggy! It’s ALIVE with all kinds <strong>of</strong> critters. Be brave<br />
and reach in to feel the algae. Take a closer look to learn more<br />

Special Artists<br />
This class is designed for individuals with intellectual disabilities.<br />
Express yourself through art! Beads for jewelry, fuse beads,<br />
shrink art and finger painting are just a few items that will be<br />
used to make your special artwork. These projects are geared<br />
towards each individual’s ability and will focus on eye hand<br />
coordination, dexterity and other useful skills. Parents are<br />
encouraged to assist. Ages 10+.<br />

Introduction to Rowing<br />
Now’s your chance to learn about rowing! Experienced<br />
members <strong>of</strong> the Association will introduce you to the<br />
types <strong>of</strong> boats, rowing terminology and the correct<br />
rowing style. River conditions permitting, enjoy an<br />
opportunity to row on the Arkansas River. Maximum 10<br />

Sculling<br />
<br />
five classes! Class starts with an introduction to rowing,<br />
terminology and boat identification. Proper form and<br />
techniques are demonstrated and practiced prior to<br />
actually rowing on the Arkansas River. Weekday classes<br />
are from 6–8 pm and Sat. class is from 9 am–noon.<br />
