Mission: To support the construction of a walkway form Sandy Hook to the flagpole to reflect the unity of our community n continuing
remembrance and shared loss. “The Children’s Walkway will create those random serendipitous moments where people recognize each
other as neighbors and friends,. We are no longer strangers but villagers looking out for one another, particularly the young, old and frail. A
wide, well-built walkway will connect churches, schools and parks with our major areas of commerce that will encourage physical activity
and unify our community.
The Draper family has committed an initial $150,000 donation to start the project. This is part of a planned sidewalk.

Mission: Kevin’s Community Center (KCC), the well -established free community health clinic serving the Newtown Health District, has
embarked on a relationship with the Psychiatric Division of Massachusetts General University Hospital to set up a workshop series to train
the volunteer professional medical staff of Kevin’s Community Center in the areas of Cognitive Behavioral Training (CBT) for acute stress,
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and grief counseling. There will be a team of four instructors conducting the long day course, with back up
online assistance and follow up help via multiple means to help ensure proper and full training.
This is a unique opportunity for Kevin’s Community Center to have a nationally recognized program agree to sponsor a program tailored to
our current and future needs. This is a first step to afford KCC the opportunity to build capacity to respond to the dire counseling and
support needs of our community not only in the wake of the 12/14 tragedy that occurred in our community at the Sandy Hook Elementary
School, but also for the long aftermath of need that has become apparent as the residents of Newtown struggle to recover from this tragedy.
The strength of Newtown in this crisis has been its unification as a community to help one another toward the path to recovery. The positive
prognosis for our Town rests in our ability to provide these long-range support services from within the Town, with minimal reliance on
service providers who are not members of this close-knit small town community.
Massachusetts General has secured a grant from one of its major donors to cover most of the costs to initiate this program at KCC in
Newtown. Additional funds will be needed to supplement this donation for the initial implementation and to ensure the ongoing training
and continued capacity building so that our community can be well-prepared to address its needs on a long-term basis. KCC, because of its
long standing reputation of providing free high quality health care to the uninsured and underinsured in Newtown, is well poised to be the
“go to” place in Newtown for residents seeking counseling and support services to address their grief and stress associated with the trauma
that they have experienced.

The Newtown Rotary Foundation generally does not expect to disburse funds directly to those in need, but to direct funds as needed, to
vendors and through local agencies Rotarians have worked with that are well qualified. We will also further refine this strategy as we better
understand the needs of those affected and other available resources. The Board of Directors of the Foundation will have oversight on
ensuring that all funds are spent per the structure defined here.

Sandy Hook Promise is a newly formed national grass-roots organization based in Newtown, Connecticut. Following the tragic shootings at
Sandy Hook Elementary School, that took the lives of twenty young children and six educators on December 14, 2012, a group of Newtown
citizens joined together to support those in their community affected by the tragedy and to enlist all Americans in national dialogue to seek
out and advocate for comprehensive solutions and action to make our country safer from similar acts of violence.
Sandy Hook Promise is comprised of two nonprofit corporations – Sandy Hook Promise Foundation, which is in the process of applying for
its recognition as a section 501(C)(3) organization and Sandy Hook Action Fund, a section 501(C)(4) advocacy organization.
Our Foundation funds will be directed in this priority order: families directly affected (including services, like counseling), broader
community impacts (including counseling for children at Sandy Hook School that day, first responders and teachers, and possibly other
community efforts such as a memorial), education on the issues surrounding violence in our communities, and advocacy once we've
identified actions to reduce violence in our communities. We will also coordinate with other funds based on the 12/14 tragedy to ensure the
most efficient and effective use of funds
