What is <strong>the</strong> QCE?<br />

The Queensland Certificate of Education is<br />

Queensland’s senior school qualification. It is<br />

awarded <strong>to</strong> eligible students, usually at <strong>the</strong> end<br />

of Year 12.<br />

A QCE is awarded <strong>to</strong> students only if <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

course of study satisfies:<br />

– a significant amount of learning<br />

– at a set standard of achievement<br />

– in a set pattern<br />

– literacy & numeracy requirements

• Traineeship students generally only do five school subjects<br />

and are at school 4 days per week, <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r day being on<br />

<strong>the</strong> job.

NCC Pathways in 2013-15<br />

Subject selection should be based on <strong>the</strong> career goal of <strong>the</strong><br />

student.<br />

This means choosing subjects that <strong>the</strong>y are interested in and<br />

good at, ra<strong>the</strong>r than o<strong>the</strong>r reasons such as friends choices.<br />

This needs <strong>to</strong> be balanced by <strong>the</strong> reality that no subject will be<br />

interesting <strong>to</strong> any student 100% of <strong>the</strong> time.<br />
