Setting Policy. DTrg(A) is the Competent Army Authority (CAA) for Physical<br />
<strong>Fitness</strong> Training and is responsible for setting Army policy, including MATT 2.<br />
However for <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Marines</strong>, the Inspector Physical Training <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Marines</strong><br />
(IPTRM) is the authority for ANNEX A to MATT 2.<br />
Commanders. Commanders at every level are responsible for the<br />
implementation of the <strong>Fitness</strong> <strong>Tests</strong>, ensuring those in their command are fit<br />
for their employment role. In consultation with the Unit Physical Training<br />
Instructor, CO’s are to publish a Unit Physical Training Directive which includes<br />
a Physical Training Plan.<br />
General Instructions<br />
Conduct of Training.<br />

a. Direct Supervision. Ideally, all forms of physical training should be<br />
conducted by qualified PTIs. Where a PTI is not available HODs may<br />
authorise the conduct of non-technical physical training in support of the<br />
<strong>Fitness</strong> <strong>Tests</strong>, by NCO’s or by individuals directly supervised by NCO’s.<br />
b. Indirect Supervision. Where personnel are unable to participate in<br />
directly supervised physical training, they are permitted to undertake<br />
physical training in support of the <strong>Fitness</strong> <strong>Tests</strong>, as an individual. In such<br />
cases, personnel must obtain appropriate advice regarding training<br />
content and intensity from their UPTI.<br />
c. CFT Conduct of Training. All training in relation to the CFT or (training<br />
in boots and/or PLCE), should ideally be carried out by a PTI. Where a PTI<br />
is not available HODs may authorise the conduct of physical training in<br />
support of the <strong>Fitness</strong> <strong>Tests</strong>, by NCO’s who have been briefed by the<br />
Unit Physical Training Instructor.<br />

Conduct of Testing.<br />
Only qualified instructors as per 2007DIN07-076 are allowed to conduct the<br />
testing procedure of the <strong>Fitness</strong> <strong>Tests</strong>. Ideally a <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Marines</strong> Physical<br />
Training Instructor (PT1 or PT2) instructed on how the conduct and procedure<br />
of the <strong>Tests</strong> are run is to conduct the testing.<br />
