ROYAL MARINES BATTLE SWIMMING TEST<br />
General<br />

The ability to be a strong and confident swimmer is an essential requirement for all<br />
<strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Marines</strong>. Units in 3 Cdo Bde RM are to conduct the RM BST annually in order<br />
to prepare ranks for operations within amphibious operations.<br />
Test Standards<br />

The RM BST is to be conducted in a recognised swimming pool, which may contain<br />
either fresh or salt water. Where a swimming pool is not available, an open water<br />
location may be used provided a thorough risk assessment has been conducted. All<br />
Parts of the RM BST are to be conducted in one session and are continuous<br />
following on immediately from one another.<br />
The test standards for the RM BST are outlined at Table 3 below.<br />

As for serial 2<br />
Any stroke can be used<br />
Equipment to be passed out unaided on<br />
completion of 30m swim<br />
Wearing Combat 95 equivalent<br />
Head to remain above the surface at all<br />
times<br />
On completion of 3 min climb out of pool or<br />
facility unaided without the use of steps.<br />
