Aim. The <strong>Fitness</strong> <strong>Tests</strong> are designed to ensure that irrespective of age or rank <strong>Royal</strong><br />
<strong>Marines</strong> personnel are physically fit enough to carry out their military duties.<br />
Need. This requirement is to be achieved as follows:<br />
a. Basic <strong>Fitness</strong> Test. Eligible personnel are to pass the RM BFT according to<br />
their age.<br />
b. Vocational <strong>Fitness</strong>. Eligible personnel are to pass the CFT and RM BST<br />
according to their current employment role.<br />
Title. The <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Marines</strong> <strong>Fitness</strong> <strong>Tests</strong>.<br />
Range. All serving <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Marines</strong> personnel are to comply with the <strong>Fitness</strong> <strong>Tests</strong>.<br />
(not withstanding Exclusions and Exceptions)<br />
Objective. Every member of the <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Marines</strong> is to be able to display appropriate<br />
levels of fitness/ability as follows:<br />
a. Personal fitness. The level of physical fitness required to:<br />
1. Afford protection from injury.<br />
2. Reduce the risk of hypo kinetic disease (disease resulting from inactivity).<br />
3. Reduce the likelihood of psychological stress.<br />
4. Enhance the quality of life.<br />
5. Reduce the risk of premature death.<br />
b. Vocational <strong>Fitness</strong>. Vocational <strong>Fitness</strong> is the level of personal fitness<br />
required to complete a specific job safely, under normal working conditions.<br />
c. Combat <strong>Fitness</strong>. Combat fitness is the minimum level of individual physical<br />
fitness linked to the physical demands associated to the role, within service in<br />
an operational environment.<br />
