David Sick, Director
Department of Greek and Romam Studies
Rhodes College, Memphis Tennessee
1996 Ph.D., Classics
I finished my dissertation in 1996 while I was teaching at Macalester
College. I took a temporary position at Rhodes College in Memphis,
TN, starting in the fall of 1997. After another search at Rhodes, my
position was converted to tenure-track. I was eventually awarded
tenure in 2004. Rhodes is a small liberal arts school in the middle of
the city. We have a four member department. I also serve as the
Director of the Search for Values in the Light of Western History and
Religion, Rhodes core program in the humanities. (P.S. If you'd like to
be the Director of the Search for Values in the Light of Western History
and Religion, please contact me.) I still have a chance to do a little
research, and I'm happy to say my next piece is coming out in the next
issue of the Journal of the Royal Asiatic Society. I've kept up my interest
in comparing things Indo-Iranian and Greco-Roman.This summer,
as I write this, I'm teaching a short course on classical epic at The
University of the South in Sewanee, TN. This course prepares students
for a semester abroad at Oxford and travelling to Greece, Italy,
and Turkey. It's jointly sponsored by Rhodes and Sewanee.
