TUNE OUT “TV” WEEK Upcoming Activities and Poster Contest March 30 th – April 3 rd 2009 April 2009 What a wonderful way to spend the week! No TV, and plenty of time to play outside, play games with your family, and do other fun activities! If you think your child (or your family) is spending too much time in front of the TV or the computer, Tune out TV week is a great opportunity for parents and children to regain control of TV viewing habits. We see this as including all electronics that your child may be hooked on: Wii, Nintendo, etc…. For Tune out TV Week, the following Eastvalley Elementary School family functions are planned to help you pull the plug and become active: Monday, March 30 th Zaxby’s & Bruster’s Ice Cream Social 5:30 – 7:00 Join your Eastvalley family for dinner at Zaxby’s. We’ll have games set up in the parking lot and great meal deals. Then head over to Bruster’s for ice cream at great Eastvalley prices. Tuesday, March 31 st Family Picnic @ the Playground at Eastside Baptist Church 5:30- 7:00 Pack you family a picnic OR you can order from Saporito’s Pizza and they will deliver to the playground at Eastside. We have arranged to have use of the playground and will have games set up for the entire family. Wednesday, April 1 st Night at the East Marietta Library 5:30 – 7:00 Come as a family and check out books at the East Marietta Library. If you don’t have a library card applying for a card takes just a few minutes. Come and encourage your children to immerse themselves in the magical world that books can bring. Thursday, April 2 nd General PTA Meeting – Poster Contest Results Friday, April 3 rd Family Game Night – at home Enjoy dinner with your family and bring out a family board game. Get ready for Spring Break and have fun as a family. Partner’s in Education continued... The winners of the poster contest will be announced at the Thursday April 2nd General PTA Meeting Safety and Life Skills Program meets many national teaching standards, promotes safety as a way of life, encourages children to adopt a health lifestyle, and alerts children to the dangers in today’s world. Fall Fest is a fun, safe fall celebration for children an alternative or an enhancement to Halloween-related activities. Patriotic Civics Program meets many national standards for teaching social studies, helps develop positive character traits, encourages civic involvement, highlights American history, and helps fulfill 2005 federal mandate about Constitution Day. All programs are age and level appropriate from pre-school through middle school with the School Speech Contest reaching high school. Additionally, there are other fraternal activities available we could share in like the Plant a Tree Program, Matching Fund project, Good Neighbor project, Join Hands Day and Hometown Hero Award. 8 For more information, visit our Eastvalley PTA website: www.eastvalleypta.org

Media Center April 2009 The Eastvalley Dedicate-A-Book Program has recently really taken off with many supporters! The Media Center Staff would love to thank the following donors and their families: Meagan Bunch, Cody Zenyuh, William Antoniades, Natalie Aluisy, Dr. Keisha Cunningham and the Paisly Dance Troupe, Harrison Pyle, Caden Mamoun, Charlie Zimmerman, Mason Mamoun. and Matthew Hestad. Thank you so much for your additions to the Media Center! Would you like to dedicate a book in memory of a loved one, for a birthday gift, elementary school graduation, meeting an AR goal or just as an act of kindness? It is easy to do. Just pick up an application in the Media Center, fill it out and return it with your ten dollar donation. The Media Staff will do the rest! Come to the Media Center and check out our new slide show! As you walk into the Media Center you are welcomed by an array of digital pictures. Our slide show features our WEV-TV News Team, donators to our Dedicate-A-Book Program, our volunteers, and of course, our patrons. We truly appreciate your support! EASTVALLEY STUDENTS COMPETE IN 'ODYSSEY OF THE MIND' TOURNAMENT The Eastvalley 3rd grade Odyssey of the Mind (OotM) teams competed at the Chestatee Regional Tournament in Gainesville, GA. on March 14th. The teams were Team Blue: Anthony Sprigle, Ben Goodly, Caroline Singer, Chezhey Lu, Sydney Agans, Shannon Murray, and Nicholas Aluisy, and Team Yellow: Mason Favro, Alex Hoberg, Christopher Block, Maggie Fleming, Zavier Gebrayel and Stephanie Gardiner. Team Blue received 4th place in the "Lost Labor of Hercules" problem, and Team Yellow received 3rd place in the "Superstition" problem. Team Yellow will now go on to the OotM State Competition in Columbs,Georgia on April 4th. Congratulations to both teams. You did a wonderful job representing Eastvalley Elementary School. We are so proud of your accomplishments! EASTVALLEY SCIENCE OLYMPIAD Group enters Cobb County Competition We're back!!!! Eastvalley did not have a Science Olympiad team last year for the first time in many years. This year we're back - with 19 awesome children and 10 teacher/parent coaches!! The new team competed against 21 schools in the Cobb County competition on Saturday March 7th at Walton High School. Eastvalley walked away with an overall 5th place, only one point behind 4th place. Houston Deshotels and Nicholas Cuneo took a 1st place medal in Mystery Architecture; Cody Lee and Madeleine Osborne came away with 2nd in Large Number Estimation; Jack Morgan and Charlie Zimmerman took 2nd in Which Way is North; Charlie Zimmerman and Ethan Miner won 3rd in Rock Hound; Cody Lee won 3rd in Save our Earth; and Mary Alex Hestad and Joshua Buchanan won 3rd in Wildlife Safari.
