POLICY STATEMENT:<br />
Registered nurses shall implement the Hypoglycemia: <strong>Adult</strong> Management<br />
Protocol where delay of patient treatment for a blood glucose—<br />
less than 70 mg/dL or<br />
60-100 mg/dL with symptoms<br />
may cause harm to the patient, unless otherwise ordered by a physician. The<br />
order for the protocol will be entered into medical record with order mode<br />
“provider co-sign required”.<br />
Medication orders will be entered with order mode “protocol/no co-sign/follow up”<br />
with the attending physician. The attending physician will sign the order<br />
electronically once aware of the orders.<br />

The RN will document all blood glucose results and treatment per protocol in the<br />
appropriate areas in medical record.<br />
