APPENDIX H APPENDIX I State Government goals Funding opportunities In June 2004 the Victorian Government announced its water conservation goals for the whole of the state. These goals were developed through an extensive review process of Victoria’s water consumption habits and future projected population and non-residential growth trends. These goals will ensure that Victoria has a sustainable water supply for future generations and the environment. They are: • to reduce per capita drinking water consumption by 15% by 2010 • to recycle 20% of Melbourne’s ‘waste’ water by 2010. Further to the Victorian government target, the water retailers have set their reduction goal: • to reduce per capita drinking water consumption by 20% by 2010. Nillumbik Shire Council supports the Victorian Government and water retailer’s water reduction goals and believes the water saving measures outlined in Securing Our Water Future Together will deliver long term water savings across Melbourne. The Victorian government is currently reviewing its 15% reduction target, as a 22% reduction in community water use has already been achieved throughout Melbourne since 1990 levels. 13 These achievements have been taken into account when developing Council’s community water conservation target. Stormwater and Urban Water Conservation Fund Local governments can access up to $250,000 in funding for projects that develop initiatives that encourage innovative approaches to water demand management through recycling and stormwater management. Smart Water Fund Local governments can apply for funding to support innovative water conservation, water recycling and biosolids management projects. Water Smart Gardens and Homes Rebate Program: not-for-profit Component Council can access this rebate for water efficient products and fixtures in all Council owned sporting clubs, housing and accommodation, preschools and kindergartens, and churches.
