water treatment options in all upgrades and developments in the Shire.

3.1 Incorporate the implementation of Water Sensitive 2008 ID
Urban Design principles as a desired level of service
in Asset Management Plans for all Council buildings
and developments – e.g. permeable paving,
bioretention bays, swales and street tree pits.
3.2 Investigate, and implement where possible, the 2007 ID
harvesting of rainwater from Council buildings
for reuse.
3.3 SMP Investigate undertaking a trial of a number of different 2010 ID
unmade road alternatives (in conjunction with Interface
Councils) using a range of materials and drainage
layouts to determine which surface is most effective.
Nutrient management

3.4 Investigate options to collect and/or treat stormwater 2009 ID and EW
from urban developments where high levels of
pollutants may impact on water quality.

Urban Design for residential and commercial
developments.
3c Facilitate Council officers receiving appropriate ongoing EP, ID and SP
training in WSUD modelling, for assessment of
planning applications.
3e Develop an appropriate maintenance regime 2008 ID
associated with WSUD treatments.
3f Ensure Council staff are trained in the maintenance ongoing ID
of the WSUD features after handover from the
developer.
3.6 Investigate options for reusing greywater or Ongoing EP and IM
wastewater in Council operations as opportunities
arise.
3.7 SMP Install line triple separators and oil and grit separators 2008 ID MW and
to treat stormwater from the Susan Street, Peel Street
EPA
and Bridge Street industrial areas in Eltham.

funding to clear the sewerage backlog program
