Scientific
The roadmap covers a broad spectrum of research activities. We indicate here the scientific and
recruitment milestones for the next two years. Within this time we expect to have:
• Constructed benchmarks for dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking.
• Made progress on the phase diagram of strongly interacting theories both analytically and via
lattice simulations.
• Assessed signatures for new physics in the quark flavour sector, in collaboration with experimental
colleagues.
• Proposed new models with TeV scale neutrinos.
Progress will be measured by the high quality of the scientific output of the team in the form of
peer-reviewed research papers, proceedings and invited presentations at international conferences.
We will constantly keep updated with respect to recent experimental results and theoretical
developments and will adjust our research plan to maximize our scientific impact.
Recruitment and Meetings
Recruitment follows the schedule detailed in the new Appendices of the original contract with a
few adjustments meant to further strengthen the centre’s international impact. The adopted recruitment
strategy ensures steady progress and optimal research output. In the year 2010 we
will organize the conference “Origin of Mass 2010” and one graduate school in November 2010
where the Nobel prize in physics G. ‘t Hooft will lecture. We have already been accepted to be
the main organizers of the meeting “Origin of Mass 2012” in Nordita, Sweden. The first two
events will take place at the centre and will be prepared in collaboration with our renowned
international partners. We briefly summarize below the tentative hiring schedule for the coming
year.
SDU will open at least one new tenure-track assistant professor position expected to be filled by
the Fall 2010 in particle physics and cosmology. The position is fully financed by the institution.
We have already hired two postdocs to start in the fall in 2010. We will open two more positions
in the fall 2010.
We have already hired two PhDs students and will open at least one more position for 2010.
Prof. Stanley J. Brodsky has just arrived, March 19 2010, and will spend several months at the
centre as distinguished H.C. Andersen Academy professor.
