quently HTI is ‘an Austrian company’, of the 17
locations 8 are in Austria. 1.200 of the total 1.500
members of staff are employed in Austria. The
company is also present in Asia. There, HTI for
example cooperates with the world’s largest window
profile producer Conch, who had purchased
all of his extrusion equipment for the production
of window profiles from HTI. Also very pleasant is
the fact, that China imposes a change in the existing
law, requiring all future new buildings to be
fitted with plastic windows. HTI generates approximately
80% of the revenues outside of Austria,
half of those in China, India, South America and
Russia. ‘Real growth is currently only happening
in these countries. Consequently, it is very important
to be there on site’, says Glatzmeier. And of
course also the costs play an important role.

The world gets lighter
On which technologies is HTI now focusing? The
segment Lightweight Construction for example
focuses in the field of mobility. ‘We try to make
products, produced of heavy materials, simply
lighter’, explains Glatzmeier the ‘industrial weightwatching
process’. This mainly in the field of mobility,
where weight is a decisive factor, especially
in regards to environmental protection, and - being
a specialty of HTI - both together. An example for
that is a part of the BMW gear. This part was made
by 60% lighter, so that with the annual mileage of
20.000 kilometers 5 liter fuel can be saved per
vehicle. For demonstration: A calculation based on
the number of vehicles and the average annual
mileage, more than a million liters of fuel are being
saved‘. But HTI is not only available on the ground;
the company is also high above the clouds in the
air: For example, the windows of the Airbus top
model, the A380, are made by HTI. But we are not
only part of the A380: ‘Who is travelling with Airbus
always has HTI on board’, says Glatzmeier.
One further technology is engineering: ‘From
product idea to sales – everything in one hand’
describes Glatzmeier the process of finding USPs
and to accompany the customer through the whole
value added process. Great success is expected
by the CEO from the Joint Venture with the Chinese
company Conch, which is currently being extended.
More than that, HTI is the market leader
for pneumatic hammers in Europe, because ‘our
hammers are especially quiet and low in vibration‘,
says Glatzmeier. 70% of all relevant furnaces
worldwide are equipped with machines from HTI,
so that the pig iron can be extracted from the
furnace at all.

In the energy sector HTI offers alternators for
small and mid-sized hydro power plants and is
also active in the field of emergency power aggregates.
Hence, the company also has got uninterruptable
energy supply systems in their product
range that are mainly used in hospitals and data
centers in order to safeguard operation of livepreserving
machines in intensive medicine and for
sensitive computers.
Highest order
situation in history
‘We have seen trying times but they have showed
us, that the Austrian banks can show a great
amount of responsibility’ says Peter Glatzmeier,
looking back on the past. In 2008 practically 50%
of revenues were lost literally overnight. ‘We have
left this phase and are much stronger today’ says
the CEO about the year 2011, which will be much
better compared to 2010. ‘If you ask me today,
what 2012 will be like, then I may say that right
now we have the highest order situation in the
history of our company. But please do not forget,
that a financial crisis may also impact the real
economy if we all keep talking ourselves in a crisis.
Economy and growth depend on how we create
our future in our heads’, says Glatzmeier. Here
